Furby vRS MPG

Featured Replies

On my run to and around Wales I averaged about 45 mpg.

Usual driving around Northampton and Milton Keynes (lots of foot flat down, wheelspin and braking due to lots of roundabouts and traffic lights etc I usually get low 40's.

But when you consider what a petrol car would be doing to keep up it aint so bad :)

55litres/12 gallons (yes that is brimmed, literally ;) ) usually gives me 550 miles or there abouts of mixed driving so thats 45.5mpg, although my trip computer reads slightly less.

600+ is possible from several long trips taking it easy so thats around 50mpg...

One thing I find is that I dont use sixth very often... perhaps I will get used to it!

I think I did expect too much. No kidding when I say my economy varies between 25-45 MPG, I have on rare occaisions hit 50 but thats like all downhill for a while as soon as you encounter a slight uphill bit its back down again. I can guarantee that 50+ is almost impossible in my car unless you drive like a granny. Maybe I was expecting too much. My commute to work is usually between 35-45 (mostly town driving, some open roads).

If anyone is interested, on a recent 310 mile motorway run with 15/20 minutes of through-town driving either side according to the vRS Fabia trip computer I did an average speed 58mph with 49.8mpg, or just over half a tank used if going by the fuel dial. 04 reg Fabia (with the 2,200 rpm @ 70mph in 6th gearbox) with about 1250 miles on the clock at the start of the journey.

Not quite as economical as the old Y reg Tdi Fabia, but near enough for me.

On my (fairly uphill) journey home from work I averaged less than 40mpg... :D I think it read around 36mpg when I pulled up at home, but it is a sea-level to 300m climb and I did around 85 the whole way - Its amazing how 17s hamper economy so much compared to 14" steels. :( (but look better obviously)

My Fabia vRS is just coming up to 900 old miles now. The lowest I've seen has been about 42mpg (shortest trip's about 3 miles). Anything over 10 miles involving a motorway is showing over 50mpg. I'm well impressed since it seems a little bit better than my old 1.2 16V Clio but the car's vastly improved in other areas.

Felicia - average 37.51 mpg over 31491 miles. Octavia 4X4 - average 31.24 mpg over 7942 miles. Now does anyone have similarly meaningful figures for their Vrs rather than wishful 'trip' or 'tankful' figures?

And here are my register (2) figures:

1). 51.3 MPG

2). 2408 miles covered

3). 37 MPH average speed

4). 65:03 driving time

I am speechless about how good my Fabia vRS is performing.

My Fabia vRS has managed 49.1 mpg over 4000miles on memory 2. Pretty good really, contrary to what I said on an earlier post.

According to my spreadsheet, since March 12th when I bought my PD100 Fabia, I've covered 4496.5 miles with an average of 49.7mpg. Best mpg from a fill up is 56.2mpg and worst is 47.1 :D

Come on guys get a grip! I changed from a cooperS (31mpg) to the VRS. It started off at 45mpg (driven hard on country roads) and 48 on a long run. It has nowdone 6000 miles and has had one of those PDI box things fitted it now goes like s*** off a shovel averages 50 and will do 53 on a run. Only problem now is SOOT (is this what happens when you chip them?) So Diesels are economical

Only problem now is SOOT (is this what happens when you chip them?)
Which of course explains why black is such a popular 'colour' for the Furbie Vrs. BTW, welcome to Briskoda, mawmaw.

You will notice the soot because you probably have more oomph going through the exhaust pipe dislodging what may already be there.

That is why it is always a good idea to go for a thrash drive before taking a diesel to an MOT.

I followed a furby vrs the other day at 5-10mph and noticed quite a bit of soot coming out the back anyway

Not quite a VRS, but I have a 1.4PD TDi Fabia and the economy was pretty unimpressive until the car had done over 5000 miles. On the way to work today (20 miles of A roads and town driving) the trip computer displayed a pleasing 72.4mpg average :) Even if i drive a bit more of a heavy foot I can still get well over 60mpg.

I have also noticed that the trip computer seems to be pretty sensitive to sudden changes in driving style. If I cruise along for 20 mins at 50-60 mph the mpg will slowly increase up to about 68mpg. But a short 5 second burst of sudden acceleration, from traffic lights or a road junction, and the average mpg will drop quickly by 4-6mpg. It then takes another 10 minutes of frugal driving to get the economy back up again.

Well, think ive got the new record... 68.3mpg for a 35mile trip to work..

my mpg has stedily increased as the miles go on.. now at 17500 and my journey to work averages 58-68mpg when i used to struggle to get 45mpg with a few miles on the clock

Nah - sounds like a broken turbo to me ;)

Impressive! That equals my best ever - without a camera though - :(

Hi,

My nearly new Octavia 110bhp TDi (8900 on the clock when I bought it) has done about 600 miles and it is sitting at 49.0mpg which has consisted of the usual mixture of A, B roads, motorway and town driving.

Does anyone know how accurate the mpg is on the trip computer compared with a spreadsheet? Is there that much difference? I use a spread sheet (averaged 31.11 on my previous 2.0 petrol Octavia) and after the first fill the car read 49.3 and the spreadsheet 48.6. Is my spread sheet calculation wrong or is the car reading a bit optimistic?

Regards

I get a reading of 55mpg on an average tankfull in my Octy TDI 110. If I calculate it manually Its actually 52 or 53.

My spreadsheet is bang on with the car on register (2).

Wayne,

What formula do you use in your spreadsheet (I am assuming it is Excel)?

Wayne' date='

What formula do you use in your spreadsheet (I am assuming it is Excel)?

Regards[/quote']The formula goes as follows:

=IF(ISERROR(G9/(C9*LITRESTOGALLONS)),"",G9/(C9*LITRESTOGALLONS))

Where
LITRESTOGALLONS
is the multiplier
0.219973603

Where
G9
is:

=IF(
D9
-
D8
>0,
D9
-
D8
,"")
or the Odometer/miles covered since the last refill

Where
C9
is the number of litres you put in the tank,

Where
D9
is the total number of miles on your dash,

Where
D8
is the total number of miles on you dash before this refill,

Ofcourse, if you want me to email it to you, and any others then feel free to ask. I may even put it on the web for download as it offers a mass of other information (see attached screenshot).

All the best.

I run a GPS in my Fabia TDI 100 and the speedo is all over the place e.g. 77 mph (speedo) = 70 mph (GPS). I think I trust the satellites more than the car, so the mpg figures from my dashboard instruments are optimistic. Which is a shame, because after 50,000 miles I'm getting an indicated 62 mpg every time.

The speedo is out, but you'll find that intentional. They all are, including mine and everyone elses car of any brand. the trip computer is accurate though and the mpg figure should be correct, just as the mileometer is also accurate.
