When did you last check . . .

Featured Replies

Your tyre pressures? I checked mine last night as i hadnt checked them in a couple of weeks and have done about 1k in the last week and was suprised to see them down by around .2 bars (about 3psi). just a thought for the fuel economy (which has been good) and more importantly your safety ;) Dont forget to do them cold as well!!

One other thing are the garage tyre inflators calabrated after they have been installed as i seem to get different results depending on which garages i use?

Do about 350 miles a week and check mine every 2 weeks, never trust the garage ones as they all vary , use the old fasion gauge , agree tyre pressure is all important not just for fuel but how the brakes work .

picked up a digital tyre gauge from tescos for a couple of quid and works in bars, psi and something else, so after trying that i thought i better get pumped up ;)

Proabably check every month on average but a visual glance gives me a good indication to if they look low, seem to notice at about 0.3 bar which while aint great isnt a disaster.

The last time I checked mine the rear was 6psi

I had a slow puncture and thought it looked a little flat

but only at the bottom

;)

Agreed with John; get youself a decent BSI pressure gauge, cos they're only a few quid.

Also, I checked my mum's car yesterday (suspect it was the first time since I checked them at Easter) 15PSI against a recommended 34!!

I recently bought a set of valve caps that change colour

when the pressure drops by 2psi ...

they seem to work pretty good ........ have been checking

them and they do what it says on the tin .......

before that I was always looking at the tyres and thinking

they needed air but on checking they did`nt

My last car had a slow puncture, it had done for about a year, adding 10psi once a week, till the two months before i got the skoda and it was every other day, yes dangerous, but i just didnt want to waste anymore money on the car being so close to trading it in. Month before hand i just swapped it with the spare.

Those caps have been implicated in a couple of high speed decompression issues (not recently, but I'd still not trust them).

i tend to drive my car pretty hard and have been able to notice a 2psi drop in the past but i still check them regularly especially when ive had new tyres fitted. seems to be one thing no one checks and im often reminding parents and the misses to check them. did my misses ones one time and she had 15psi in 1 front and 40psi in the other!

however finding a garage with free air and a accurate compressor is difficult.

Once in a week, 30 front/28 rear (PSI)

Last week - cos we were about to go on longish trip. Usually do 'visual' which tends to be pretty accurate.

Do not trust garage gauges - bad experience of gross under reading years ago which led to having to reweld suspension link - so bought (AutoExpress recommended) Michelin tyre pump (dual piston), bit hefty but very good.

Normally check weekly, and if I do any 'longer than trip to work' (which is 50 miles) journey.

Usually wander round the car once in the morning anyway for a quick 'tyre kick' check + to see if I've picked up any dents etc overnight by careless behaviour of others... ;)
