Turbo Feed Pipe Leaks

Featured Replies

I own a 2002 1.9 TDi Octavia L & K and recently I have had a few occasions where I have suffered a sharp reduction in power, I assume that it is dropping into "Limp Home Mode". This can be cleared by switching off and restarting the engine and all is well until I accelerate heavily.

I have access to a code reader, and am being pointed to "Reversed or Leaking Turbo pipes". I have checked all hose joints etc from the turbo, through the intercooler to the manifold, but have not found any sign of a leak. I have ruled out the reversed bit as this was a fault that developed rather than something that happened after work was carried out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a joint, it may be popping open under high boost but not showing engine off.

Can I ask you a wee favour too, since you've been looking in that area. Is there any sign of scoring on the intercooler to manifold pipe where it passes the pulley on the auxilliary drive (I think alternator, but it may be the aircon compressor)? Location top front of engine bay.

Certainly didn't see any signs of anything in that area, but will take a closer look later.

Many thanks

Cheers. I'd had issues with the alternator, and noticed some scoring on that pipe just recently. I suspect it's just my car cos it gets resonance at certain combinations of road and engine speed (not ones I use much though).

If i n doubt I'd change the pipes PDQ as starving a turbo of oil is a sure way to kill it.

It's an air pipe, not an oil line.

No probs. You were right in the general case, and in this specific I'll be keeping an eye on it for now.
