Mondeo Titanium X...

Motorpoint have a few of these beasties... all 6 months old or so, and all under 10k on the clock.

2.2 TDCI 155bhp engine, estate, all the Ghia toys and sports suspension, 18" alloys, CLIMATE CONTROLLED LEATHER SEATS!!!!, all the extras etc you could ever want. Would be a

I looked at one of these 6 months ago but they wanted

Truly a bargain and while it will continue to depreciate, it won't be doing it that rapidly as it's a desirable model with the top spec engine. Not bad to drive either .... apparently ;)

Chris

Just out of interest (but feeling too lazy to look myself) what are the main differences between this and the diesel ST?

  • Author

Just seen, the ST TDCI with same miles and age is only a grand more! :D

I think its a superb car for the cash. If you keep it for some time its a bargain for sure.

Parkers lists the independant dealer price at over

Motorpoint cars are generally (so could be wrong) sourced from outside the EU which means they only have the 2 year manufacturer warranty and not the 3rd year limited miles warranty.

The ST TDCI and the Titanium X TDCI both share the same 155bhp engine. The ST has a sporty interior (which just heated electric Recaro seats), bodykit and maybe slighty upgraded suspension....

Chris

The ST will most likely depreciate faster, if the mk2 mondeo is anything to go by. My Ghia X, was worth more than an equivalent age ST, despite being cheaper to start with.

I think I'd go for a Titanium X. It has the SAME suspension as the ST. The ST just has a bolder bodykit and sporties seats, but the T-X has quite a few extras over and above, whilst still looking quite sporty.

I didn't realise they were imports... :( Having looked on their site thats confirmed they are imported. I suppose if you keep it long term its not a problem...

They only tend to import new cars, 2nd hand ones will most likely have come from auction or exchange, or possibly direct from Ford, as you say its an old model now.

Nice cars these, and I quite like the interior?

Two people at work have them - one in V6 form, the other in TDCi 2.2. Both happy with them, although only one uses the Bluetooth functionality and it can be a bit tempramental. The diesel guy's just had a what sounds like a full ECU update from Ford on Sat, as part of a service. His is a Aug 2005, and had reported a mid-range 'stutter' to them.

If Motorpoint doesn't look good, I'd have a look at Trade Sales, Slough. Ford Direct are also worth checking, both colleagues cars came through them.

Steve

the 2.2 engine does seem to be nicer than the 2.0 , we don't get a lot of 2.2s in to comment on the faults that occur , but the 2.0 can be pretty dreadful , i've replaced 3 injectors on car with 32k on the clock

Do you know anything about this update in 'firmware' on the 2.2 Ric? Sounded quite interesting. As in, 'we didn't get it quite right first time so we'll update the car while it's in for service' :)

Steve

Pretty sure this is well documented on the ST owner's club site, Steve. Ric can correct me if I'm wrong, but Ford flash the cars as a matter of course if updates are out and flashed a few ST's which royally buggered them up! There's since been a correction issued I think....

Chris

More toys in the Titanium X than the ST.

ST's were usually dearer by a couple of K but that difference seems to have gone.

Motorpoint will sell you a 3rd year warrant or you could just get a quote from warrantydirect etc and factor it into the price.

You'd need to check the spec carefully just in case there are differences from the UK standard and it's missing anything you'd really want.

If they'd been 12.5k 6 months ago I don't think I'd have an Octy now.

I had an ST TDCI for nearly three years and have to say before i got it i was like a six year old waiting for Santa, needless to say that did not last!

For nearly two years of that ownership at every opportunity i would drive SWMBO's Fabia Vrs, the 2.2 TDCI engine is not what it is cracked up to be, trust me.

Oh, and i had a 2.0 TDCI before that and that was a good engine.

So really if it's just toys then i would say not a bad deal, but if it's drivability and quality of drive look at something else.

So what would you recommend for

I I suppose if you keep it long term its not a problem...

 I think you should consider having your cars on a weekly lease

So what would you recommend for

A 105bhp Octy TDI for

If they had done Mondeos at that price at the time I was buying my Mk2 Octavia I certainly wouldn't have had a second Skoda.

Old model or not , it's a decent car at a cracking price

A 105bhp Octy TDI for

Tom I think you should find another 4k and go for the Mazda 3 MPS at Perrys of Preston for

Steve

we only usually update the PCM when the vehicle is in for warranty diagnostic work , but Fords are doing a lot of updates now that the IDS* is fully online , we can even check for them wirelessly over the network now , yes thats right , the dealership i work for has finally entered the 21st century

*IDS is the diagnostic tool , basically a Panasonic toughbook that costs 12k  or so the managers tell us

Has anyone got or test driven one of the new shape Titanium X's.

Tom, you don't get many more toys in the Titanium compared to the Ghia, but the price difference is huge. Could that be worth a look? And yes, they don't handle well, but they are comfy.
