Petrol per Gallon

Featured Replies

Hi Chaps.

Well, got my new Octavia II 3 weeks ago and it has surpassed what I expected from it.

My digi cam is not working so I might take some photos with my phone and post them up.

I have a quick question.

I was working out my fuel to see what MPG I was getting.

It is saying I am getting about 25-26 MPG, is this good or bad for a new car

Here are some details.

1.6 MPI -

6 speed-tip (not DSG)

There is a total of 1004 Kilometers (523 Miles) on the clock

Most of my driving is city driving.

The maxiDot is showing I am getting an avg of 7.8 KP/L

Thought it missed something really big here - then I re-read the message and reallised that you didn't get your new Octavia III one week ago...

More like 8 pints ;)

Except in the States where it is a short one - called a Gallo !!!

You can change the units that are displayed to mpg through the Maxidot setup which will make it easier to compare your own calculated figures.

The brochure quotes fuel consumption of: urban - 26.6, extra urban - 48.7 and combined - 37.2 for a 1.6 tip hatchback and as a rule of thumb you can expect average consumption of about midway between the urban and combined figures.

So that would be about 32 mpg once it's run in and depending on use (of right foot), etc.

Is that not californian wine? ;)

Mmmmmmmmmmm pints of wine! :D

Fuel economy largely comes down to how you drive so if you spend a lot of time in stop start traffic, your economy will be lower than if you cruise all day at 56mph. Best way to work it out is to zero the trip and brim the tank and then at the next refill, brim the tank again and record the number of miles you've covered. You can then work out a more accurate tank-average...

Yeah, might run okay on Gallos, but only round in circles.

Thanks jlwah, scoobyChris

Working out my fuel consumption is not something I normally do. I normally just fill it up every Saturday and drive for the week before topping up again.

Someone had asked me to work it out.

The MaxiDot came up with the same figure as I did, pretty much!

As for the right foot.

I have been a little heavy on the ODD occasion. Just can't help myself. :)

I had changed it to miles Gallons but it gets a bit confusing when everything here in Ireland is now in Kilometers and Liters

just divide the figure you see on the mpg screen by 4.5 and it will give you miles per litre, to then work out km divide by 5 multiply by 8 ;-)
