Tyre size help required

Featured Replies

Can someone please translate 125/70 R18 into real sizes for me, please? (actual total diameter and width)

Its a space saver, hence the strange proportions.

the diameter is 63.22cm and the width is 12.5cm but that's just the tyre... the wheel will be narrower than that

125 is the width in mm, 70 is the aspect ratio, which is a percentage of the width, so 70% of 125 = 87.5mm, R is the diameter of the wheel in inches.

so the total diameter of the wheel and tyre = 18" + (87.5mm x 2) = 63.22 cm

hope that helps :D

Thanks, Tom. How did you work that out

EDIT: So who is right ?

EDIT2: apinner, dont you need to do 18" + (2x87.5) ? This would then agree with Tom.

like said above. 125 is the width in mm.. which translates to 12.5cm

the profile is 70%..... so 12.5 x 0.70 = 8.75cm

18" x 2.54 = 45.72cm

remember you have a bit of tyr all the way round the wheel so it's 2 x:D so it's the diamter of the rim plus 2 x 12.5cm = 63.22cm

Mine is wrong, i forgot to add the tyre twice

you can tell ive not had my weetabix!

What have you done to that left hand brembo?! You know there's having a passion for big brakes, and then there's taking it just that BIT too far...

Well, thats how they started life, then stripped back to bare metal, then re-coated a familiar green colour ;)

Lots of help from Silversausage and his father who is machinist extrordinaire

I did the opposite - I stripped back my back brakes and matched them to the brembos.

Did you get some brembo stickers to put on them once they were green? ;)

Sure did, they are off a Mitsubishi evo and I managed to pick them up over on lancerregister, fortunatly every man and his dog has brembos there and they have a good supply of heat resistant OE decals for everyone that refurbs them.

Only down side is that the seals are extortionate.

ohh ma baz, wondered where my evo brakes went to!

oh my god!, they look like evo 6 brakes.

;-)
