Twin Scroll Turbos?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I recently read a review on the new Renault Megane Sport [?] 225. Basically, there was a mention of a Turbo lag reducing setup referred to as a 'Twin Scroll Turbo' (you can find info at www.greddy.com:)). As many recently 'scalped' vRS will attest, Turbo lag is a bain at the lights .

Is there anybody here who can give any pointers on getting a Twin Scroll setup for the Octy vRS and how useful they are, this would have to include a corresponding manifold (to feed each 'new' half of the Turbo inlet)? It has to be RELIABLE, i.e. 20K+ miles/year, no 'projects' :D

At some time in the not too distant future, I'd like to partake [?] in a spot of reverse snobbery and try to get my Octy vRS somewhere into the [V.Everday.Reliable!!] 280-300Bhp scooby/evo/m3 scaring territory (after I get some KW3's, Brembo's etc, etc  ).

These are the types of questions that Briskodians want answering....

Big Rich

P.S. Twin Scrolls seem to have been available for quite some time (RX7, Evo's etc). Not much VAG/VW/1.8t info available [via google]

:p

A shot of nitrous can be used to spin up the turbo hence eliminate lag.

I read somewhere about putting a simple switch under the accelerator pedal, so when you floor it just enough nitrous is injected to get the turbo going.

Certainly a lot cheaper than new manifolds and turbos.

Easy way to stop lag is to use a supercharger either to relpace the turbo or to work along side the turbo but there is some serious development to be done using these methods on the VW lumps.

The VW's to look for are the Corrado G60 and I think the Polo G40.
