My first engine MOD

Featured Replies

Right last week I purchased one of these tuning boxes of ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2471851065&category=32094

To my knowledge (not alot then :D) this is basically the EVRY mod for the PD engine range. Check out http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27267 for info. If I understand it right it basically tricks the ECU into dumping more diesel into engine.

Right well I fitted this tuing box last night. The bloody thing works :D. Their is defiantly a increase in power. Not one of these, well I think its increased. You notice it as soon as you put your foot down. The ASR kicks in :thumbdwn: . Turn it off and the front wheels light up. Pulls stronger through the first 4 gears (not got a chance to use 5th and 6th yet)

I'm sure we'll get to compare this mod with other standard and non-standard Fabia vRS's at the National Meet :D

how easy is it to fit? is it easy to return the car back to standard before you put it in for a service and how much did it cost in total

You getting any black out of the exhaust?

Hardest part was getting the clip off to unplug the loom. You then just plug the tuning box in. It uses oem plugs so its a straight fit. Simple to remove for service.

The tuning box cost me

To be honest i don't know. I'm sure it will dump more black stuff out the back but i tend to be looking out the front of the car now its going quicker.

Well, run the engine then pop round the back and have a look at the exhaust...and get someone to rev it if you can...

The black smoke would indicate it's running too rich, but you could easily get it to run leaner again by introducing more oxgen to the engine. I'm sure you can where I'm going with this... ;)

Never thought of that.

Yep i think i do :D

And apparently it's simpler/cheaper than doing it to a petrol engine... :rubchin:

It was the best

I meant the oxygen delivery system is cheaper and simpler on a diesel. Still probably looking at a few hundred for it though, and you'd have to make sure the engine was overfuelling enough... :D

I remember following Matt through Wales with a tuning box... The amount of black smoke was astonishing, as was his 15mpg worse than mine, and we were both "having it!" :D

All good fun :D

I've had no problems with my box, although it is tempting to go for a proper map the get the BHP higher. I actually get around 45-50 mpg with it in, so I'm happy with the fuel consumption although the amount of soot it produces is annoying to other cars (but they soon hang back if they get too close :D)

Running too rich...but rather than reduce the fuelling, increase the oxygen, then you can actually make use of all of that extra fuel... :D
