USB flash drives

Featured Replies

I have just been sat debating which of these to get as they are the same price but slightly different. Then I thought I would put your knowledge to the test as i never think of that normally!! So go on, which do you think would be better? One has some software to compress files to give it more storage space and the other seems to have other random software?? Oh I dunno lol! have a look...TIA, Lozkins :)

I'd go for the Sandisk one, it has 4GB actual capacity, and you can always compress files yourself.

Not a bad price that at all, might have to buy one when I get back to the UK :)

The Sandisk one would be my choice. U3 could be useful if you visit different sites / PCs to work.

yeah thats a point, could zip them I guess. I just wondered if it was any worse quality (or whatever!) using the 'virtual' memory of the sony one as opposed to actual memory?

I've got a SanDisk one myself and its great. U3 software works really well and it organises your files well. It's also fast compared to my Discgo drive.

Nah the quality of the actual memory is that the 4GB is always usable - unlike the virtual stuff, which is basically just compressing it. So if you have a compressed, lossless photo on it, it wont compress very much if at all on the virtual storage, so you effectively run out of space after 2GB, whereas with the uncompressed memory you'll have another 2GB to go :)

Sandisk is a quality manufacturer as well (so is Sony), so you cant go far wrong :)

See Loz people agree with me :P:rofl:

Get the 4GB one - compression is just compression, whether done on or off the disk. It's still twice the capacity, and the same price. Sandisk is a perfectly good make too.

on a side note, my usb memory stick has been through the wash about 6 times now and it still works perfectly!!!

I'm running a 1GB version of the SanDisk Cruzer and will shortly be upping to a 4GB version.

They are great and a little point is they have no removable cap to lose (unlike the Sony!).

U3 software is great - but I am surprised so many companies allow me to run software from a memory stick - what a security loophole!
