Baker21's Superb........back To Black!!

Featured Replies

I'm struggling to find a good pic, but at high cornering speeds, the tyre deforms sideways and there's a force pulling it away from the rim. If the tyre is already stretched, that force is starting with an advantage and it's more likely to be able to pull the tyre off the rim under fast cornering conditions.

Here's an example, not easy to see, but compare the tops and bottoms of the tyres.

I understand the theory and the 'engineering' behind it but stretching the tyre just moves the tyres down into the centre of the rim so you achieve contact with the rim, just a little further down......

I drive a Superb not a race car and drive fairly cautiously and it seems that there are certain forums that seem to struggle with the concept of 'tyre stretching'.....

I except the potential for the tyre to come of the rim but in this instance the stretch is minimal.....I should have 225/35/18 and I have 215/35/18 on these wheels.....there are some much worse examples out there...

The rear tyre's on my 9.5J 19's are worse that these with 235/35/19 tyres on....

Thanks Shaun.....looks like I won't get them on until I am back from the US but I will update the forum when I return....

I don't think I have any trouble understanding the concept, I'm an engineer, after all :D

I just want you to be safe, that's all.

Thanks for your concern mate......your not the only one that is concerned about this 'tyre stretching'.....I guess it's just about being a little different.....or achieving that something a little different to the next Superb?!?!?

Well chop chop :P. I need to sort me some wheels out now, bored of mine and want some dish hehe

hi Baker21

I have every intention of lowering my car to go with the larger wheels. It's only funds that's holding me back at the present!! I have to admit that your car is my insperation and cant wait to get started!

Cheers

Carolyn

I was aware that they made them in 5 x 112 but not in a rim size bigger than 17" which would be way to low to the ground unless I had a massive profile trye to get the car up off the floor a bit....lovely wheels though....what you planning for yours?!?!

I've only seen them onece, so I could have misread. Wished I'd bought them though, I think they'd look really good on a Superb!

As for mine... hmm... I was planning on A8 rep's or TSW Holstens, but currently funds are running low. So probably just new tyres for the steels, then go for coilovers when I've got the cash... then possibly have a play with some old Merc or Audi 16" rims.

As for your rims... get those spacers on and get some pics up! Least then it'll end the debate ;)

Thanks for that kind comment....there are plenty of 'cheaper' lowering options available and if you need any suggestions then just drop me a PM......look forward to seeing your mods when funds allow....

Completely agree that the Borbet's would look great on the Superb!!

Don't go with the A8 Reps mate....they have been done before....do something different and stand out from the crowd.....as for lowering on 16's if my car being lowered on 18's is anything to go about you will need to ensure you get a decent sized tyre profile before you can go low, otherwise you will be grinding the floor.....LOL!!!

Not going to get chance to get the spacers on until middle of September as two holiday's start this weekend......

Join the club.....I've been aiming to achieve the B look for a year now and am still no further!! due to children and lack of funds.

Nearest I can get is trying to make it look clean and take pretty piccies like Simon does of his!!

Staying clean is always a winner in my books mate.....

Gotta say that I do like the black rims... Wonder what they'd look like on a Blue Superb...?

Not sure mate.....more than welcome to meet up....try them and maybe buy them.........LOL!!!

Anyone fancy doing a spot of photo chopping for me?

I know it's not exactly the same, but check my project diary. There's a couple of shots on there of my car with no wheel trims, before she's lowered.

Baker, I'll probably keep the OE 205/55/16 profile as I'm spending a fair wedge on some decent rubber very shortly. I figured keeping the size like that means I can wind the coilovers right down and not worry about arch scrubbing.

Well we got a baby sitter for Jake while we went to town on our cars for the VW festival and by the time we got to Harewood house the cars were grafted again, I was quite upset :( the mud covered the only modification we had done (idicator side repeaters) and the weather didnt really allow for an on the spot clean. The wheels will be next though :D

Cheers

Fair enough mate....with a 55 profile you will be fine!!!!!!
