:iagree: with them that is. The 225s are usually cheaper than the 205s, and give pretty much the same rolling radius.

Ive been running yoko parada spec 2's found to be very good..

For best id say mich pilot sport 2's ran them on my M3 now running toyo t1's which are not a patch on them...

Used F1's b4 not a big fan to be honest..

Trouble is most people's opinions differ its down to personal pref really BUT the Pilots are awesom..!!!

I have the Conti Sport 2's (think that's what they are called) and they are great so far.

As mentioned 225/45 not 225/40 would be the correct choice.

Falken 452 are very nice one they have scrubbed in and a good price to :)

Just put a set of Toyo TR1s on mine, can't believe the difference they make

.

GSD3's are nice

Hello, is it wise to go to 225 instead of 205? I take it this would increase the track of the car to improve handling slightly better, but would this then mean the alloy may fold over due to the excess? I am needing to get some new fronts for the car and going to stick to the OE Conti's but wondering about the size.

Cheers

No problems with these, in fact looking on the Goodyear site it says the minimum width for 225s is a 7 inch wide wheel which the vRS has, so no problem.

Id steer away from the Contis too as theyre nothing special at all and they command a premium over stuff like the Toyos and Goodyears which are better tyres.

The general recommendation is that the wheel width should be at least 0.7 * the tyre tread width, which means that you need at least a 6.5" width rim (Ok 6.2", but try and find those) to mount a 225 tyre. At the other end of the scale you can go up to 0.95 * tread, ie 8" (well 8.4" but...).

Cheers, I take it I have to change all fours or can I leave the rears for now? Reason for sticking with Contis is a personal pref. Have run GDS3/GDS2/T1R/T1S. SO3/SO2 etc on an S3 and find through they are sticky they just wear out too ruddy fast i.e 6-7k admittedly no fault of theirs, but at

One I can recommend in the 225 for a cheaper tyre is the Falken 452, only

I was tempted with those but paid a bit more for these newly fangled Eagle F1 Aysmmertrics.

Ok, I paid

Pirilli P-Zeros 205/50/17 get them on ebay 2 for

I'm also shopping around for new rear tyres, which of these would be best?

205/50/17 93Y Falken FK452

I'd go with the 205's as they're cheaper and you won't notice the extra 2cm width when you're driving anyway :D

Chris

Agreed - the gain in lateral grip is at the expense of an increased tendancy to aquaplane (and the traction control says the Octy is quite liable to aquaplane on the 205s anyway).

I've ordered 2 205/50/17 93Y Falken FK452's and will get them fitted this Saturday :)

Do you want grip? Or long lasting tyres?

Long lasting, go for Continentals.....

Grip - Toyo T1R, Eagle F1's (sidewals a bit soft I and others have found).

Falkens I personally would never touch again, I found grip appalling in all but hot dry conditions.

As said though, it's all down to persoanl preference, which varies widely where tyres are concerned.

Falken 452 I have on the octy (205/55/R16) grip really well in the wet, not sure which ones you ran dave, but I did hear the 451 were not to great in the wet.
