20v......Am i being dumb?

Featured Replies

hi guys and gals.

im new to both the VAG scene and forums so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Got a random strange question. The vRS is described as a 1.8T 20V....yet only seems to be a 4 cylinder? Now if you have a 20V engine, and uses 4 valves per cylinder, surely it would be a 5 cylinder?

Any info would be great

P.S pickin my 05 vrs up on sunday!!!!

3 inlet and 2 outlet ;)

yep, the 18t is 5 valves per cylinder.

DV? How come? The stock one is adequate. You could replace it with an uprated recirculating one but it wont offer any more noise really.

Also, the vent to air valves (which make the pssssstttchhh sound) dont work too well on these engines.

Atmostpheric DV works just fine on my 1.8T ;)

The new diaphragm type valves are supposed to be better than the normal piston type upgrade from what i've been told.

Ahhhh!

There are lots of threads on here about normal DV's used in conjunction with induction kits which will achieve the "Vroom Pstcsssssh" sound.

I used to have a Hyperboost HX DV with a Carbonio CAI and it made plenty of induction noise and a very loud release note.

which make the pssssstttchhh sound.

What a great word, saying it out loud almost makes me think I am behind the wheel of my VRS:thumbup:

I have a nice noise from my Carbinio CAI & Forgee 007 DV.

my octavia only makes a thud at the moment and thats only when i hit it with a hammer :(

but mavis makes loads of noise :D

but mavis makes loads of noise :D

Is that the new wife. ;)

Mavis though noisy makes only the fraction of the noise that Helen does. ;)

I'll leave it there......
