My vrs..love/hate relationship!

Featured Replies

Now i love my vrs to bits, but sometimes it drives me insane! only had it 5mths so i know early days but in that short space of time i've never been 100% happy with it but i know i could be if i sort out a few problems i have! First is the splutter when cold seems to do this when hot now aswell going to get garage to clean tb hopefully that will fix that. My main problem at the minute is the car just feels wrong.. seems to be pulling alot you can feel it in the steering wheel sort of side to side. Recently steering seems to be heavy too i've mucked about with tyre pressures and it's not that! i have a small sort of popping/small knock noise from passager side aswell but only hear it really when turning in and out of corners any ideas? Not sure about my tyres i have contisport which have about 5-6mm tread on them i feel like changing these just to see what it's like. Well i might aswell carrying on and get it all of my chest... i seem to have a creaking noise when i reverse out of my drive which slops down only time i notice it???? Oh and just to note i've had a new arb and bushes/ middle section exhuast, and tracking is ok. Maybe when i sort out these problems and have a rear arb fitted and remap i will be in love again but at the minute it's just annoying! Any ideas or thoughts? Sorry for my rant. Cheers

knocking when you turn could be ball joint?

I have read in the past about a noise when reversing off a drive on a slope can't remeber the car, but was a VAG car of some kind.

I love mine to bits, my pride and joy. But we do occationally fall out with each other.

I thinks its normal in any relationship.

mine has been a pain in the backside too!!! doesnt even begin to compare to the focus for build quality, so far my octavia has

2 knackered rear wheel bearings,

the door on the passenger side unlocks but wont open

the rear boot fills with water every time you open the boot after its been raining

needed a timing belt WAAAY before any modern car should need one (its 4years old with 38000 on the clock).

the welds on the exhaust have snapped once too!

and the drivers side seat is fraying

and the shroud on the front anti roll bar is cracked

and its got a slight stammer....

tbh although i enjoy driving it if anyone asked me if id ever own one again id say NOOOOOOOO! its totally spoiled the way i look at it tbh.

coolant temp sensor,

anti roll bar link on passenger side.

rear brakes are sticking abit when sat on your drive,as you release it there's a slight cracking noise, all my cars have done this on my sloping driveway.

Thanks for the replys. coolant temp sensor for what? The splutter when cold??? It just so happens that i have just brought a new green one today as i have had trouble with the gauge not always working! Big thumps up to Irvines in bridgwater again! Matt the parts guy was spot on and i had a good chat with him about common faults.

Will be fitting it the weekend if it stops the splutter i will be well chuffed!!! Cheers.

Oh and Duke of hazzard- glad im not the only one i know what you mean too all these little faults just let it down so much.. i had a mk4 golf with 120k and had no problems like im having with the octy. But still there is something about a mk1 vrs that i still really like.

I'm on my second one now and as previoulsy mentioned, despite apparently needing a new cambelt at 29K miles (4 years old), dumping water in the boot and seemingly requiring new ARB drop links every 5 minutes I think they are smashing cars which are difficult to beat on a BHP/

I love mine BUT I bet Skoda/IP love it more

Yeah, dont get me wrong i love mine! like you say for the money nothing comes close.

A Skoda vRS is like Marmite......................You either love it or hate it!! :P

Mine was spluttering quite badly this morning, had to slip the clutch a little to get it to pull, is this likely to be the coolant temp. sensor?

mine still splutters a little even with thte new one in,the VVT comes on when in cold start,if you whack all the accessories on from the off it can splutter,i normally wait a minute for the engine to settle to about 900-1000 rpm and then put on the radio/climate.seems to work for me.but if yours is doing it regularly in all temps and even when warm/hot,it's certainly worth checking. any lights or fault codes?

Nope, no lights or fault codes. It does it whenever the engine's cold, I think it was particularly bad yesterday morning because I left for work at 5:30!! It stutters around the 1000-1200rpm mark I think.
