City Rover - any thoughts?

If it's 3 years old show him this as well:

VOSA safety warning

It actually states that Rover are unable to do anything about it (surprisingly  ) so it's off your own back. This pile of poo your mate is planning to buy MIGHT have such a problem.

The safety kit in general is appaling so if your friend felt unsafe in the previous car then the delightful Cityrover won't help either. It's likely got a pretty weak chassis as well.

To sum up the s*itty rover:

:dung:

Thanks for this.

Hello

Ok for people who all own Skodas we should know how hard it is to convince people that there is nothing wrong with the mark. So why slate a Tata Indian built car with a Peugeot engine? However some parts may be hard to find as already stated I would not be too sure of that aspect. However as one member pointed out head gasket failure?? What its a Peugeot engine be it an old version but no head gasket failures here! Yes there a bit slow but for "city Roving" there fine and suitable for most users going to work and the shops!

Do avoid old rover 800 series/ 200 series and at this stage aging Honda 600 biased and 400 series. However get your self a newer 45 post 2004 this is due to merging of parts between MG series also built at Long bridge and you also have 75 seats and the build quality is good, no bull. Ok its got some old styling on the dash form the 400 when it was released in 1996 however quality is good on 45/25 and the MG variants, get the 2005 model and its all new styling on the inside due to production ceasing in Honda of the Domani / legend and old Civic. Stick with 1.4 versions and you

Tell your friend walking is better.

they are utter ****e

It should be interesting in 2008 when the new Roewe 750 is released to the public and the following year the 450 what the reception will be.

Hilarity , mostly!

I'd have to agree here.

Avoid the City Rover. If your friend still wants to waste his/her money then let them.

Buy an older Fabia or even a Felicia. Yes they are older but it's better value for much more outstanding car.

Theres a reason why they are cheap.

Rover went down the pan because they were selling 10 year old cars at competition prices when their cars weren't as talented as the competitions.

Rover could have re-engineered the CityRover themselves but they got a car from India, stuck a Rover badge on and sold it in a segment where there was some seriously better cars for the same money.

For 8k would you get a Cityrover or a Fiesta?

The new Chinese built Roewes have been given glowing reviews from the motoring press so far.

Should be good to see what happens when they are shipped over here.

erm............................resurecting a thread from August would suggest that said person has a) been disuaded and bought something else or B) bought the City Rover and is sat in a layby waiting for a recovery vehicle!

Hi, my friend is just about to buy a three year old City Rover for

If a Rover, then a T3, mmm...

17804.attach

Just remember not to exceed 52,000 rpm...

And fuel prices will be a problem when consumption is 6 mpg :D

You`ve done all you can by the looks of it, a fool and his money eh? Let him find out the hard way I`d say. A mate in work has a ZR160(I called a rebadged 25) thats the same age as my Octy, he`s had enough of the problems, electrics and wot not, he actually said it`s a pile of crap..nuff said.

It's a Tata Indica.

They are basic, easy and cheap to fix but pretty basic.

Now all the skoda drivers who take the p*ss may wish to realise that the old skoda's that were the butt of all the jokes were easy and cheap to fix and basic.

I wouldn't buy one, especially not for 3k, but they won't be hard to fix and probably ideal for a town trundle around for the right price.

I bet my Rover is faster than any of your Skoda's!!!

If the CityRover had been released 15 years ago it would have stood a better chance as there were a lot of cheap little plasticky cars on the market.

Releasing the CityRover in more recent times was a bad mistake as most makes of car have a quality feel about them and have really upped their game. look at FIAT, Citroen, Peugeot and Renault as well as the Korean mob for example.

I bet my Rover is faster than any of your Skoda's!!!

I was watching a TG rerun the other day where they did the tribute to the Rover V8. Mmmmmmmmmm SD1 :D

SD1 V8 with a fook off great big supercharger, hot cam mahoosive carbs etc etc!!

The sound alone wins any race!!!!!!

Rover 27000

Ahh SD1 , and P6 3500 , now they were proper Rovers!

PS I think Top Gear tonight is doing a piece on the 40th anniversary of British Leyland , so a few 'Old Skool' Rovers might get a mention there.

Chris

Seconded although the one Clarkson had was utter ****e

I'd still take the 3 door SD1 over the Princess or the Dolly.

Earlier today I was watching an old episode of Police Camera Action on sky where half the programme was devoted to showing the in car footage of 2 police Rover SD1 V8's rushing a liver to a central London hospital for a transplant!

Made awesome viewing, must have been one of the earliest police in car cameras? they sound so lovely, cant wait till the summer to get mine out again, it sound even better as it revs higher plus it has that lovely supercharger wailing away too!

Edit: just found it on you tube - YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

UPDATE :

I'm afraid my friend didn't listen to me, more than that, he's fallen out with me because he accused me of "ruining his expectations".

He has brought the City Rover, only had to take it back to the garage twice in 3 weeks, so perhaps he got the good one.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts anyway.
