City Rover - any thoughts?

Featured Replies

I know plenty of people in my area who have bought ZR's and ZS's recently quite cheaply and think they are bee's knee's because they drive a "hip and stylish" looking car. They seem to think of themselves as "boy racers" as well, when in reality they are driving Rover 25's and 45's first designed in the early 1990's with a lot of plastic tat stuck on at the factory to appeal to vain but not very intelligent people

don't buy it, someone my girlfriend works with has one about the same age and the exhaust has given up on it. not a great problem in its self but try buying one, parts are simply not available for this car. i rand every wholesaler and motor shop i knew and could find and bits simply aren't available in fact most shops don't even have it listed on their systems.

so simple parts that will go wrong you won't be able to get off the shelf, get him to buy something else thats more sensible and that you can get parts for. please.

I think the "not being able to get the parts" angle may be the one to try, i am seeing him soon, will have to try and get to him before he hands over his cash.

The Cityrover is a terrible tin box with no charm, power, handling or equipment, and is overpriced at any cost - do everything you can to warn him away from it The original Metro is a far more entertaining drive! If he has 3k to spend he should be able to grab a Panda, a well sorted Ka (preferably with a zetec engine instead of that pushrod clunker) or a 1.3 Micra, all of which will raise a lot more smiles and last a hell of a lot longer.

As I said earlier, they've probably scrapped the spares donor cars they had at Longbridge

Has he driven it yet? That might be something worth encouraging him to do ;)

Chris

I don't think he has, he has a habit of buying things, getting ridiculously over exited by them, and then just throwing them away a couple of months later.

If he's true to form he will probably just throw it away in a couple of months.

One of the ones youve suggested would be a lot better.

I'm not sure it'd take me a couple of months!!

Look, I drive a 698cc car & I'm slagging this silly piece of motoring tat - surely that tells your mate something?????

Assuming it lasts that long, then yes, he will have to throw it away as it'll be worth near enough nothing on trade-in...

Yeah use the 'no one will want it when you try and get rid' angle as well as the parts thing , it will be a nightmare to sell on!

I think everything has been covered in here, don't do it. :D

I've just heard more. I another friend about it, she then told him. Now he's saying that i'm ive got some ulterior motive and i'm trying to bring him down.

It seems that all the negative reviews, and all your views on this forum, just don't seem to be able to get through.

Ah well, i was trying to help i guess.

Call it quits mate, some people can't be helped. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way.. usually by the side of the M1 at 3am in the rain.

Some people eh?

er....you seem to be talking balls there mate :)

the ZR160 and ZS180 if not the most modern looking inside are actually very capable cars indeed, if your car at night(going by your sig here) came up against a ZR160 then it would destroy you in every way thinkable, it would out corner, out break and out pull you every time if both going for it. same with the ZS180.

the ZR160 has 157bhp and weighs 1090Kg so 30bhp more and about 300Kg less than you SE, the ZS only weighs 1235Kg so still over 100Kg lighter than your SE and even quicker than the ZR160 :)

....... until the headgasket goes.

I'd still never buy one due to the fact the basic design is 15 or more years old.... the interior is god-awful... the build quality is shockingly poor..... and its a Rover.

If it's 3 years old show him this as well:

VOSA safety warning

It actually states that Rover are unable to do anything about it (surprisingly  ) so it's off your own back. This pile of poo your mate is planning to buy MIGHT have such a problem.

The safety kit in general is appaling so if your friend felt unsafe in the previous car then the delightful Cityrover won't help either. It's likely got a pretty weak chassis as well.

To sum up the s*itty rover:

:dung:

Has there ever been a thread on here before where everyone has agreed about one car?

I did think I'd look up the City Rover on the Euro NCAP site - but it doesn't seem to have been tested for some reason.

Tell him it's a 'recognized' Ladeez car :D

It had already fallen apart when they took it out of the shipping crate, so they just threw the bits at the wall instead :)

PMSL

An Indicartion of the quality

Would prefer an old Rover 100 myself  - no airbag but at least it's a no pretence car :P
