Insurance Surprises

Last year Skoda Insurance mailed me a deal - they would beat any renewal premium. They did - they beat my Privilege renewal by

It's the same story every year - it always seems to pay (me, anyway) to change insurers.

Most definately it does. When I got a quote from my previous insurer and when I was changing over from a Fabia estate to an Octavia hatch, I asked for a quote. They gave me a price of about 400+ to which I said 'I only want cover to go upto the end of my current year' and that was just over 2 months.

I was then told it would be

Same goes for home insurance

Yep pays to shop around each year for all sorts of insurance. I notice some companies (eg Admiral) try and appear to be more competitive by quoting for 10 month "accelerator" policies so something to be wary of too.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Hastings Direct send me my renewal in October.

That will be interesting - Hastings were one of the best quotes on my Confused.com list [for me as a new customer the quote was

I've been with direct line for years and each year I check and always find them to be much cheaper than the competition.

When they first started their policies didn't take mileage into account - there's no limit - and existing customers can renew with these terms.

I do more than 25k a year and this makes it a hell of a lot better value than a new policy with someone else where the high mileage means they load my premium

Rechecked my list of results and to my surprise Direct Line isn't quoted on it at all -perhaps they don't allow search engines access?

But I did try them myself and they were not as good.

What is weird though, I just noticed Zurich themselves (Skoda's underwriters) listed in the Confused.com quotes at

I'm in the process of renewing mine.

Phoned a few of the usual suspects and have ended up with Adrian Flux and Equity Red Star. Not the cheapest they offered but when pressed knocked over

It's also worth looking at the cashback you can get if you buy through quidco.

Quidco - Finance (104)

It can make quite a difference

From their recent advertising campaign they seem to be slating the "price comparison" websites so either they don't feel they're competitive or their better features are not being adequately promoted.

Adrian Flux (underwritten by Equity Red Star) were cheapest for me this year. Who knows for next year!

Hmm.. I'm due up in October, might be worth a shop around, been with Elephant for a number of years on an accelerator after a minor incident. but got a good few years no claims now..

By making a few calls my insurance was

Equity Red Star were the company being used when Skoda first contacted me last year. It only went rubbish when it came round again this year and turned out to be Zurich now.

I have been with churchill for the last 3 years, but every year I do a search on confused and get the cheapest like for like quote then tell churchill and they have always matched that cheaper quote for me. Currentley I am paying

Yeah I did a bit of google detective work before taking the plunge and discovered they used to be Skoda Insurance. All seemed well with them, I'm pretty fussy about insurance.

Adrian Flux were keen to get me into a company who were registered in Malta - not for me thanks.

I have my new L and K Octavia insured with swiftcover.com whichis an internet only company underwritten by AXA insurance. Worth a try for anyone renewing

I'm with More Than, - they were cheapest when I renewed last June but will not be using them again. They wouldn't entertain any forms of modification.

Therefore, which insurers do you guys go with that have remaps etc?

Last year I ended up with NationWide. They were about 40 quid cheaper than Churchills - who NationWide use for there cover. Answer me that one then ?

This year I've end up with Flux 'cos the kit car is insured with them also - so there was some leeway on the way the policy was priced.
