Split hose help

Featured Replies

When the RAC man came out to fix my car earlier he had to remove the plasric engine cover to get a the coilpack. Now i hadn't removed this before, hadn't had reason too, but while he was working on the car I noticed a split hose. What it is/does it do? Could it be a contributing factor to lumpy starting? And am I likely to get it replaced under warranty!

This is on the right hand side of the engine, it's quite oily, I'm guessing some kind of breather pipe?

edit: Here's another pic so you can see where it is in the engine bay a little better.

This is the oil breather pipe. I know this because I had mine replaced on friday as it had split. The photo could easily have been of my engine!

Okay, thanks. It just makes it easier for me to describe when I phone them up tomorrow, rather than saying 'it's a funny rubber hose that splits in two and it's got oil in it!'

I'm hoping they'll cover that and re imburse me for a coil pack under the warranty seeing as I've had the car for less than two weeks!

The part number (I think it's the part no!) on my bill is 06A103221BH GM047 and is

I had to replace mine last week. The pipe hose had gone all goooooie & rotten. I had the smell of oily fumes coming into the cabin, which took me back to the good old days of my 309 GTI (boy I do miss them days!!)

Hmm, I have noticed a strange smell in the car, a bit fumey. I thought it was just my nose where I've got a bit of a cold!

Oggy, I don't supose you're Martin Ogden 'Oggy', are you!?

Just got off the phone from the dealer, they say that this probably wouldn't be covered under warranty because hoses split!

Does make you wonder, what exactly that bother to look at when the cars got through the multi point checks when they're sold as Skoda Approved Used Cars. Not too impressed by this.

Unless of course the hose has split within the last 13 days, which is how long I've owned the car.... but what is the likelyhood of that being the case?

Hard to say but the hose shouldnt be under any pressure as its only a breather. Usually youd expect it to rot not tear like the previous poster.

Mine was rotten and gungy too. I took my plastic cover off for the first time because I something sticking out by the oil filler cap.

I found electrical insulation tape had been wrapped around the split in the breather pipe and had come loose.

As I've had the car from new, I know that only two garages have had their hands on it. Assuming that the main dealer was not responsible for it (they haven't seen the car for 35,000 miles), the independant garage is the main suspect. I will be going back to the main dealers again for my servicing now.

I've jsut been to the Skoda dealership that I bought my car from. They've put a bit of tape on it for now to try and reduce the fumes you can smell inside the car, they're going to ring me tomoorrow and let me know what they're doing with regards to replacing under warranty.

the part number is moulded into the top face of the hose if you want to be sure you are asking for the right thing :) mine is the same, I just haven't got round to replacing it yet

Ha ha, no need to apologise!

I've just bought one, the part number quoted above is correct.

I ordered 06A103221AH which is the original part number, the part actually now carries part number 06A103221BH so I guess it's been updated, but looks exactly the same otherwise. Price
