When do you wash your motor?

Featured Replies

Not that it's been particularly hot this summer (or even dry), but having a black car it's almost impossible to wash without getting streaks and constantly redoing bits that have dried while I'm working my way round...

So what do you do? Start when the sun comes up, or wait till it goes down? Get a big tent? Wait till it's about to rain? Or get some other bugger to do it?

i clean mine in the evening or on a dull day, its to much work in the heat. my red fades on my car so i have to was rather regularly , dam it

So what do you do?

Swap it for a silver one :D

Then you only need do the alloys every week and the bodywork every 2 weeks - and it still looks clean inbetween.

HTH :P

I just wash mine whenever I have time to do it. Try and avoid hot times of the day so either first thing in the morning or in the evening (but expect it to be a magnet for bugs!). Doing it in the rain is also quite good, although the neighbours will think you're crazy.

No point spending ages cleaning it cos as soon as it gets driven, it's going to get dirty again!

Nice and early on a Sunday morning.

Mine gets washed every week, but I try to wash it early or late in the day. If can't do it then I try to park it in the shade. Which luckily my drive is. I'll rinse each part of the car almost straight after it has been washed. Then dry after it's all washed, and a damp cloth to sort out any water marks. Always seems to work for me.

mines not been washed since May 31st , i think i did it in the afternoon , usually pressure wash it at work in the morning , but just can't be bothered anymore

I do mine Friday evenings usually, however when im off for the week and driving everywhere then i do it when it gets pretty dirty. the other week it was three times in one week, but that included going to Hayling (washed when i got home cos of sand and bugs), Bristol balloon fiesta (dirt track and bugs) and other places i think the two above made the car the worse, but other days it was just a quick squirt with insect remover on the front of the car and windscreen to make it look presentable and yes its a black car, lovely when clean, but a sod to keep it clean.

About 9 o clock in the morning , to avoid the hottest of the sun.

Anytime of the day, but you have to be quick in the sun. I can two bucket wash and towel dry in under 5 minutes.

Once the car is nicely waxed it's a case of wash (2 bucket), rinse and dry(microfibre). Job done and no streaks.

And thats on a black car.

I always wash the car first thing in the morning. To avoid the marks if it is drying too quick, I spray with some detailing as I dry with a micro-fibre. Sorted.

Saturday or Sunday morning, depending on the weather. If I'm on holiday, then twice or even three times a week if the weather is crap. I'm sad though says 'er in doors!!

I wash the car at any time of day but wash an area at a time.... I start by rinsing the whole car. Then wash the bonnet & front bumper then rinse. Then move to one side of car then rinse. And so on and so on untill the car is done. Then an overall rinse again and then wipe dry with the water magnet cloth.

Never had any streaks or marks doing it this way on any of my cars.... (Currently have black & silver cars)

Cheers

Dave.

ive found ive cut my time down loads since ive managed to find my jetwash in the garage and certainly gets more dirt off the alloys too!!

silver cars may not need washing so often but they are a bugg3r to get all the red splodges off the front of the car..

I usually wash our cars on a weekend when the kids have an early night.

I try once a fortnight, but the road out by my house is quite busy, so if I see a space outside I am out the door and running like Forrest Gump so I can park outside and wash it. :D

Every three months :(:(

Drive to jetwash on other side of town. Wash car, drive home. By the time I'm home, it's dry (unless it's raining :D:D).
