Fabia VRS went bang !! (06 Reg)

Featured Replies

G'day All,

Went out at lunch time today and popped down to Accington, did what I had to do you Accrington, got in car did a U turn in first gear, started heading up the road, when a loud bang happened and the car's engine just stopped, pulled over to the side of the road and tried to re-start it. It will turn over but not start, won't even fire.

RAC came very quick, plugged in and said the computer said nothing was up, but the car was still not working, did all the usual check, oil, fuel pump, belts, but nothing seems out of place, no leaks either.

So RAC towed me to Colne Skoda, and now I've left it in there hands.

Who knows whats up with it, run fine until today, was regularly serviced, and was serviced only 2,000 miles ago, but it's not working any more

Regards

Kiwi

That doesnt sound too promising :( Hope it gets sorted soon for you.

As above. A friend of mine recently had a similar problem with a PD130. No bang or smoke but turned out the bearings had failed.

At least it should all be covered under warranty and hopefully they'll be able to sort it out nice and quickly...

Hi all,

Well the update is, "the turbo has blown" on the VRS Fabia.

The car has only done 12038 miles, service 2000 miles ago.

The turbo is out of stock at skoda and the factory, miniuim wait is 2 weeks for a replacement.

Sadkey they are becoming a common failure item.

hope you get it sorted soon.

:thumbdwn:

Sympathies.

 Goes out to check car.

why are we suddenly getting so many turbo faliurs... I'm sure we only used to get the odd one or two..... anyone know if they are fitting different turbos?

Turbo failures have been common for ages though, it's probably just more of those affected getting online to try and self-diagnose it whilst waiting for the official Skoda verdict.

Been sourcing them from FIAT ?

glad i've got a spare

hi all, there aint nothing wrong with fiat turbo's anonymouse maybe the positioning is wrong?

Mate of mine just called me (well it was on Tuesday) but he is on his 3rd turbo on his BMW - think it was the 120d - and he doesnt trash it when cold, or trash it and turn it off, but makes progress on the motorway like most of us I suppose.

He's not particularly amused with it either, as there won't be any warranty on it this time

I've still got a standard turbo at home, came of Shifty's car before he had his hybrid fitted, think it has about 10k on but would have to double check with him. Quite happy to sell that on ;)

That's because you should have fitted the GT28RS :D

My Fiat Coupe was fine until the turbo went so I just upgraded......and I got it done on warranty

had 2 punto gt's for well over 10 years the car may have had its problems but the engine/turbo never let me down, think they used garret T2 turbo

G'day All,

Here's an update:-

Skoda Colne phoned me on Wednesday to say Turbo had gone and it wasn't in stock, and there was a 2 week wait, my thoughts were holy ****. Then today out of the blue Skoda Colne phoned me to say the parts had arrived out of the blue with them today, and the car should be ready monday evening, if all goes well.

I say well done Skoda for delivering the parts so quickly nice one, now they just need fitting and the car checking over and all will be back to normal

I'll post more when I have another update

Here's to happy motoring

Kiwi

Good news that.

Lets hope it all goes smoothly.

I'd have asked for them to source a golf pd150 turbo hehe

G'day All,

Well it's back Skoda Colne have done a great job, they replaced the turbo and intercooler, and all seems well.

I was amazed this morning when I received the call, I'm more than happy with the service.

Once I work out how to display pictures on here, I'll post some up.

Thanks to everyone for your support :)

Good stuff and nice job Skoda Colne :D

Just out of interest...can turbo's just go even when driving in non aggressive conditions?? what is usually that makes a turbo go - too much pressure?

A pretty speedy resolution after all - Nice one.

Why not do a dealer review in the dealers section.

mm, dealer did you good service there, better than most I'd suspect...

Wonder if they took the turbo off of another car from their forecourt to speed things along?

I'm sure they didn't but seems strange if they are on back order them getting one quicker than expected.

Good to hear you're back on the road.
