Admiral and Remaps

Featured Replies

Just a quick one, as with a remap no new components are added to the car (It is after all just a change to the code in the ECU) how would the insurance ever be able to tell whether you had remapped your car or not?

They would use VAG-COM (or equivalent) to interrogate the ECU. With remapping becoming so commonplace, it would be a very cost effective way to avoid paying out for them....

A simple CRC check with the known code against the current one will show the ECU had been tampered with.

If the ECU is interrogated is it possible to check if the car has been remapped in the past, or just at present?

( I have seen a flash drive device that lets you store "plug and play maps", so you can swap back to factory standard for services, MOT's etc, I wondered if you could still check if a car had been remapped in the past).

The answer is it depends. ;) If the ECU records a count of every time it is flashed (which some do) then it will be apparent....
