When did the Aux socket and MP3 stream come in?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster after recently buying a Mk2 Octavia vRS

I have been reading this thread with interest as my car is a 56 plate, pre MY07 car, with Jumbo box, no aux socket and the standard stream HU.

I was planning on getting a few parts from RS to make my own aux socket and wire it in to the bcak of the stream myself. However from reading this is seems that the pins are not physically there on the back of the stream to do so? And this is despite the fact the menu's on the stream mention and aux input?

Am i right in thinking there are no pins on the back to of the stream to wire to?

Cheers! Alan

Yep, I'm afraid so.

EDIT: ...although there are plenty of solutions that connect to the CD changer interface, if you don't mind losing that..

Thanks for the info.

Shame really, I would have preferred to have kept the CD changer if possible. However I have seen some devices on ebay (usually from china, not seen one from the UK yet) which replace the CD changer with a device that lets you plug an SD card or USB stick full of MP3s into it. Has anyone had an experiences with these? Are these what you were reffering to or did you mean the leads that let you plug an Ipod stright into the back of the stream?

Ah well, best start saving for a MFD2 then!

This thread is close to my query. I want to self fit an AUX-in, if I can. My Stream is not an MP3 version.

Auxiliary connection to Stream radio in 2006 Octavia 2

There appears to be a set of connection pins in the back of the radio that may provide a line-in for connecting other audio sources. (A sticker says "in - L, R" showing a diagram of the socket.)

Does anyone know which pins provide the line-in function and how the line-in is then selected?

In the menu it is possible to set AUX ON and change the sensitivity but how can one mute the radio?

Where can the special connector for the back of the radio be obtained?

whats stream MP3, is that the ipod connector that goes into the back of your headunit. my car has the red calipers, and jumbo box, but i only have an aux socket

Sounds like you've got exactly the same problem I had simon. I swear there must have been some mis-builds as this has cropped up quite a few times now.

Generally speaking, if you have red calipers and an AUX socket (i.e. Model Year 2007), you should have the MP3 version of the Stream radio. Without it, your AUX socket will never work. All the info is in this thread if you read it from the top.

EDIT... or did I misread your post? Does your head unit say "Stream MP3" on the front, or just "Stream"?

will have to check, my aux socket does work though like a headphone jack, but i dont have any ipod connector, i thought the IPOD connector was a cost option. or have i got this all mixed up

There is no OEM ipod connector for your generation of radio (whether Stream or MP3 Stream) that provides full control. You can of course connect through your AUX socket for audio only, but no control of the ipod itself. You can also get various aftermarket interfaces that replace your CD changer with an ipod connection, but with very limited remote music navigation options.

The Facelift Octavia with new "Bolero" and "Columbus" radios actually support an OEM "multimedia" interface (cost option), to which you can connect an ipod and have full control through the head unit (and charging, I believe).
