New VRS Arrived... First Impressions

Featured Replies

Picked her up yesterday... had a great drive home from Burnley... what a car :)

I've decided to be good and take it easy for a thousand miles rather than going completely mental... but the temptation... :D

Couple of annoyances though.

1) A REALLY annoying knocking noise (like knocking on a hollow plastic box sorta thing) seems to be coming from the passenger side of the car... perhaps under the passenger seat - thought it might be the storage campartment at first, but it seems to be held on tight and secure.

2) Went to the drive-in carwash today... got to the other side and noticed that my fuel filler had decided to open, probably due to the brushes pressing against it.

3) The sunglasses holder on the roof is pretty flimsy and theres a gap on the left hand side of the door... the fit isn't snug when it's closed.

Other than these three small things... one of which is REALLY annoying, I'd recommend picking one of these things up... what a car :D

I can't believe....

YOU TOOK IT THROUGH A CAR WASH

You need your bumps feeling.

You have just worn out 3k miles of clearcoat, covered it in swirls and tiny scratches, and missed loads of bits of stuck on grease and crap...

I'm sorry for saying this, but you are this weeks compete idiot.

:o I was in a rush to get to my girlfriends...

:D it takes 2 minutes to get another erection.

It takes 3 hours at least to remove scratches from a car.

You do the maths.

Looks fine to me... added to the fact it was cleaned at least twice at motorpoint... can't see the problem.

I take exception to the complete idiot remark... maybe a little slow, but not an idiot :P

Sex maniac :D

Suspect you're going to get somewhat of a caning from the 'purists' on this site over the carwash.

What the Hell - it's your car, enjoy it

Donning Nomex.

Noise - suspect it was (the everpresent) Mr Grumpy crying 'No. No. No' after you went through the car wash

I meant the iritating noise in my car ;)

Oh, right... got it

Why have I got the mental image of Mr G dragging me out of the car and taking a pair of size tens to me... it wasn't that bad

Serious answers about this noise thing though... anybody think I should take it back to Skoda and ask them to look/listen?

Glad your enjoying the new motor. But a carwash? Seriously! Just don't come crying to us in 'Styling and Car Care' when you want to get the swirls out of the paint :P

For the noise, drop it into somewhere more local perhaps (Alex Lawrie/Mitchells?) and get them to have a look/listen and fix under warranty, if appropriate.

Will do, try and book it in tomorrow hopefully

and Leave me alone now about the carwash thing... I've learned my lesson... I won't do it again, sir :(

Dont forget to register the car with Skoda UK to activate your warranty, just takes a phone call - youll need VIN number, engine no + reg no

I may have been a tad harsh, in retrospect ( and sobriety ).

Car washes are one of my pet hates though.

I'm with Mr Grumpy on this, car washes are evil...

and I curse every time there's a "Charity Car Scratch" at my local fire station...

:D it takes 2 minutes to get another erection.

Whats An Erection....???.......

Someone is going to have to explain to me how you get swirl marks in a car wash, the paranoid amongst you no doubt believe they will cause scratches but swirl marks would be impossible in every car wash I have been through.

Swirl marks are usually caused by over zealous Sunday washers using a sponge.

from meguiars website although they will be slightly biased - meguiars.com: FAQ - What causes swirl marks?

Automatic car washes. Many automatic car washes still rely on spinning nylon bristle brushes to scrub your car clean. While these brushes may clean really well, they also instill many unnecessary scratches. Remember this also: any automatic car wash system that relies on some type of material that comes into direct contact with your car's finish has the potential to instill scratches. You see it doesn't matter how soft, or state of the art their system is, if the car or truck before you was 4-wheel drive dirty, the dirt removed from their finish can potentially still be in the system (imbedded in the brushes or what have you) whereupon it can be rubbed across your car's finish. Automatic car washes are usually not recommended if you want to keep your finish scratch-free.

and have a long trawl through A world for detailers...

Just a thought on the knocking noise - is there anything in your passenger door pocket? I keep my ice scraper in there, but I have to have it wrapped in a cloth or it bangs about.

Same could apply to something in the glove box, or even a loose pair of sunglasses in the holder.

Oh - and very sorry - but I'm not letting you off without another b0ll0cking for putting your new car through a car wash. Read how to do it properly at Polished Bliss - Car Care Advice - How to wash and dry your car safely and effectively

Erm, don't the brushes rotate in car washes you've been in then?

The car washes I have been in would leave a straight scratch, "swirl marks" are circular and are caused by using dirty sponges and the like.

Thats why I only buy Silver cars - as boring as they are you hardly ever have to wash 'em, reflects sunlight better & paint work doesn't show scratches.....

i can guarantee that my old (magic black) focus company car (that i had from new) was covered in swirl marks when it went back after 6 months. It never saw a sponge, only about 6 or 7 car washes.

Do the car wash haters also hate the newer ones that have the "vileda" strips instead of the traditional brushes?

Just wondered if they were any better.

Yep, hate them all.

Anything that batters your car repeatedly whilst traversing it's length and spinning round is going to damage paintwork.

what?

WHAT???

like she's bothered about a clean motor, it's not the car that impresses them, that's meant to be you !! lol :)
