1st variable service cost?

Featured Replies

My Passat is due it's first service in about 700 miles and it's on variable servicing.

Just wondering what sort of cost I'll be looking at comparing it to 1.9 TDI Octavias and Superbs. Mileage is around 17,000 and I'll only be doing around 7K to 8K a year so not sure if I should be going onto fixed service schedule or not!

Also not too sure as I haven't checked the service book what is involved in the first service on variable, any ideas?

Got another 6k or so to go on mine mate. My Dad's Touran (2.0TDI) is on variable and his first service at around 16.5k miles cost him about £180 from the dealer where he got his from .... not that that's much help but I'd imagine that a 1.9TDI service would be a tad less

I'd imagine on such low milage that you may be better on fixed?

It would all depend how much per year it would be apposed to how much it would be every 2 years! The fixed would have to be a fair bit less than the variable to make it worth swapping to 12 monthly servicing.

I know there are folks who say the oil should be changed more frequently but these fancy new ones seem to point the other way.

Do they use different filters for variable because I would have thought that the air and oil filters would still need changed within a year whether you're on fixed or variable?

Same service items regardless of type of servicing except the oil of course.

The 3C Passat runs Interval servicing so the first service is an oil and filter change plus check tyres basically. 0.9 hours labour plus parts.

Cheers Lummox at that length of time for the service it might be just as well going to my local VW dealer rather than going to an independant as the cost of consumables will be the same, I'll get quotes from both but for the sake of £20 or £30 peace of mind from VW means alot and also if they pick anything warranty related it can get sorted quicker!

They will also check if there are any updates due for your car or any recalls or rectifications required.

We have a few 'active repairs' going on at the moment, not recalls but things we can do to stop a possible known fault in the future.

I had my car serviced less than a month ago and looked to see how many

miles to run and maxidot indicates just over 16K?

It came as a bit of a suprise as I have done less than 1K.
