Simple question with a simple answer

Featured Replies

My VRS was serviced by the supplying before I picked it and they fitted a new air filter. On inspection though this air filter looks just like an other but with a thin layer (5mm) of black foam glued to the bottom of it.

Should I remove this foam to help engine breathing or is it necessary?

Was there a VW part number on the filter? I have only ever seen that foam on Sharan/Alhambra’s. I would fit a K&N panel filter.

Its not an OE part, its a cheapo version.

K&N is a no no for a while as I need other bits and bobs for it first. I'm thinking of just ripping the foam off but I'm not sure if the foam is needed.
