Noisy Exhaust on vRS

Featured Replies

Have recently moved from Mk1 vRs to Mark II version :) and find the exhaust noisy. The car in question is 56 plate and has done 1500 miles. Been to stealers and was told everything OK . When moving off car sounds like diesel version !! Blipping throttle at standstill causes vibration and movement of twin pipes at rear and like popping noises also ? any ideas ?

Cheers in advance:)

I wouldn't say mine is especially noisy and it doesn't make the popping noises but it does give a subtle growl, especially noticeable if sat in the rear.

Cheers. Think I will get second opinion from Starperformance.:)

does it sound any different from a cold start up to when its warm?

A little noisier when cold but not a great deal of difference. I wouldn't say my exhaust growls more of a booming sound.

I know Mcgyvers is a little noiser than mine. I actually found mine quite irritating at the start :)

The TFSI engine is a bit noisy, almost diesely, on tickover and at low revs - a product of the Direct Injection fuelling.

Engines can quite often pop a bit having been blipped and the vRS exhaust does resonate at around 2,500 rpm - bit of a throaty growl.

If you are still nervous though, do have it checked again.

Thanks for the replies. The exhaust is annoying me just now  but maybe should just crank the stereo up and enjoy the car:)

or try a cherry bomb exhaust for a few weeks

hi there.i have got a 56 plate vrs and when it had around 2500miles on clock the rear silencer sounded terrible.when the revs were coming down around the 3000 mark it sounded as if it was vibrating or as if it had something rattling inside it.i don,t know if this is the same problem but it turned out to be the baffles inside,so it got replaced under waranty.the only problem that i had is that the first three times i went to the dealer it sounded fine, because the run on the motorway heated the baffles up and it sounded fine,so one day i arrived there early and let it cool down.hope thi s helps if it is the same problem.
