Tested Octavia Today - Impressed!!!

Featured Replies

I think I have found my next car!

When I drove the Octavia I could not believe how well it was screwed together, it makes my Honda Civic feel as if its made of jelly!

The Octavia is a fantastic car to drive, feels like it has been hewn from solid rock, no squeaks or rattles, just a smooth quiet machine.

The one thing that felt hard work was the clutch, but the car I drove was brand spanking new - I assume this would get better with time.

Also tested the Roomster and was also very impressed, it feels very well made also. It would be my second choice if for any reason I didn't buy an Octavia.

As I told the salesman, I have no need to look any further! :)

what spec and engine did you test?

sounds like you were suitably impressed :D

Glad you found a car you like! Which spec did you go for?

I really hope it stays that way - all the Octavia MkII's I've been out in have lots of annoying squeaks and rattles :(

Tested an Elegance 1.9TDI, but will likely purchase a 1.6 Ambiente.

I have until next april to make my mind up, thats when I have to order the car.

An extremely good car, just can't imagine why other manufacturers can't build a car this good.

Yep, i dont think you'll be disappointed if you do choose to go for it. Remember though, you will eventually get the odd problem and rattle, like you will in any car.

I haven't had mine for long at all, but i agree - it's the best screwed together, value for money, and easy to drive car i've ever owned...

Glad you liked it. I've never had anyone in the car who wasn't impressed with it.

I think I've turned a few people's thinking on it's head with it.

I've had mine only a little while (3 months 3k miles) I've had one rattle which seems to come from the third brake light. Sorted that myself. Other than that no nasty noises.

As Guinness says it you can't expect it to last forever.

And yes the clutch in my TFSI is heavier than some cars but I prefer the controls to be a bit 'meaty' anyway.

One of my previous cars was the old shape renault megane. The clutch was so heavy that even a 10 minute short crawl through traffic left you with an aching leg. Test drove a Clio once as well, which was exactly the same. My TFSI is a dream in comparison!

I like them myself.

Do you get a discount for motability?

  • Author

On Motability you get free servicing, insurance, road tax, tyres, repairs, glass and breakdown cover. For this you sometimes have to pay an advance fee. For example the Octavia 1.4 Classic is free as is the Roomster 2 1.4 Auto.

The Roomster 3 costs £499 and the Octavia Ambiente is £995.

The car has to be changed every three years, but you can add any optional extras but you have to pay for these yourself.

Also on Motability cars you lose your DLA mobility allowance as this is what pays for the car.

All in all it is a good deal, only have to put the fuel in and drive.

A good deal for sure.

don't be put off by some of the faults you read about on here. It has been said before, people are likely to post faults rather than praise.

Yes it is a good deal as it means that people who are not well and in my case terminally so, have one less problem to worry about.

Having a new car is nice but it does involve a lot of paperwork and research never mind trying to get wheelchairs in etc.

My Focus C-Max on motability was nothing but stress, it went back to the dealers ten times in three months. Luckily I was able to change it which would be alot more difficult if you actually owned the car.

Glad you liked the Octavia, I've got a 2.0 diesel elegance estate, bought it 2 weeks ago, it's got full leather and I am really pleased with it, quick and economical too.Regards, Monkster.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've had a 2L Ovtavia Sport for a year now and love it. I fond the 1.6 petrol slightly lacking - make sure you try it before you go for that version

Tested and ordered a Octavia II 1.9TDI today. What can I say? It has all the know-how of VAG corporation, it semblance to Golf V, but is offering more space, It is ideal for a family with 2 children.

I hardly wait mine to come...

All the best to all Skoda fans.

I took delivery of my 1.9 TDI MK II Ocky on Sept 1st 2004. Ordered it after a 10 minute test drive.

43K miles later am still happy with it even though it has had a couple of problems, the most expensive one fortunately while it was still under warranty.

I have test driven the new Fabia as I felt that I could downsize but was not totally happy driving it and decided to keep the Ocky for a bit longer.
