1.6 FSI Ambiente

Featured Replies

Anybody got one? Whatcar? rates this model best out of all of the octys and i am really tempted to get one. dunno if i can afford one yet though.

just wanted some feedback

My dad had one as a loan car when his Fabia was in for repair and loved it. It'll not break any land speed records but it'll certainly be adequate.

Don't do it! Go for the 1.9 tdi or the new 1.8 TFSi instead, depending on your needs, performance or economy.

Depends what you want.

I got my 1.6 FSI Ambiente a few months ago, and I love it. Roads seem so much shorter, not because I'm going faster but because it's such a pleasure to drive. The boot, the aircon, the multichanger, the chime when you've left your lights on, the heaters on the wing mirrors, the colour, the look of the engine . . . .

If the 1.8 TFSi or whatever is better, that would be more pleasure than I could handle!

the 1.6 petrol really is a good engine, i just went on a TD with a customer today and it really surprised me :)

as above its not as brutal as the tdi's but its smooth!!

I agree with this post. Also, if you look at the what car octy video review at Whatcar they say the car is ok if you dont live near a hill!!!!

obviously id love the rs but insurance costs refrain me from buying one.

does anybody know the answer to this question though. why is the 1.6 classic a higher insurance group than the ambiente, bearing in mind it doesnt have alloys and the engines are the same?

obviously id love the rs but insurance costs refrain me from buying one.

Have a look at the new 1.8 TFSi Ambient instead then, looks like you can get one for around £13500 on the internet, I would like to bet that it would be more economical than a 1.6 FSi also. Turbos are very efficient.

Easy tigers!

I don't have a 1.6FSI Octy but I drive a similar size car with a 1.6 petrol engine (actually less powerful than the FSI). No it won't win any races and its not even particulary economical but it does what I need it to for the money I can afford. Try it, see how you get on in the sort fo driving you normally do and if you're coming from something much smaller, don't worry it'll still feel "fast" to you.

Skodamart, how much is the cheapest 1.6FSI you can find? £1500+ cheaper?

obviously id love the rs but insurance costs refrain me from buying one.

Just trying to get the best bang per buck! I don't class buying something you didn't want at a good price a bargain! Spend a little more and get something at least closer to the car he wants, a vRS

my last car was a 1.6i it did 130 tops and around 34 mpg whilst being driven like it was stolen. As it was only me in the car most of the time it did alright for 1.6 and even with a car full of people it did its job even through you noticed the extra weight.

Ive also had 1.4's which would be the lowest id ever go on a car and if anything the 1.4 i had did better on acceleration to my 1.6 as it had the air box air restrictor removed and a straight through exhaust.

Why not see if you can take one for a test drive for a few hours. I must admit i like my 2.0fsi but there certainly isnt much chance of me getting a good run during the week to or from work cos of the traffic.

Did also notice Jewsons are selling some ex demo cars this week, see if you can pick a bargain up there (savings will cover the insurance) ;)

did pop down to jewson yesterday hoping for a testdrive but all the salemen were busy, so had a quick nose on the forecourt then left.

to be honest, i might as well hang till march wen tax, MOT, warranty and insurance all expire on my fabia.

my problem is is wen i want something i want it now, just gotta leanr to be patient :(

im constantly on skoda site and with my head stuck into whatcar?, debating which one to go for.

am now debating whether to go for a 1.6 fsi ambiente, 1.9tdi classic or 2.0tdi ambiente. Bearing in mind ive got no yrs NCB and only 2yrs of experience and i got a ****ty job which pays nothing.

oh well...

your just like me lol, i couldnt wait for mine even through i could have waited till 57 plate i couldnt if you know what i mean ;) did see the ex demo vrs there advertised in the paper for £15k on 07 plate, tmepting if i didnt have what ive got already.

i know you gonna hate me saying this (as i did when i was your age) but basically you got to buy your time with a small engine for a few years, wait till your insurance goes down at 25+ (providing no claims) and then things start to look up as its taken me 13 years to get to the stage where i could buy a brand new car (all my others have been 2-4 years old minimuim).

i dont want brand new though, just a bigger better engine. new car is totally out of the question cost wise, also i wanna avoid the depreciation of the first three years. 04 plate would suit me fine.

I have the 1.6FSI Elegence (not much different to the ambiente, just a few more extras).

I love it. It's big enough for the 4 of us (wife and 2 little ones), the boot is plentiful, economy upto the lake district doing a constant 80 - 90 about 40 mpg on super unleaded (99 tesco), the ride is excellent, it's comfortable and a great place to be. The petrol issue is an important one though. Normal unleaded might be great, but once you try a more suitable and RON specification, you realise how smoother and better the car runs. The 3p or so premium does even itself out a little with slightly better economy and that smoother sounding engine, especially on teh motorway.

However, I had a 1.4 16V Fabia estate before and I loved that car too. The difference in ride quality wise is obviously better, bigger wheels feel better than the rather small Fabia wheels, handling is better and the Octavia is a more comfortable and I don't seem to get as tired whilst driving this car. Journeys definately seem a lot more pleasureable in the Octavia.

Yes, a more powerful car would be great, but I couldn't afford the premium and also you to take into account the insurance, which seems to be more of a lottery these days.

Just for the record, I paid just less than 13 grand for my new Elegence with a few extras and MP, but the same car at my local dealer at the time, with 8000 miles on the clock, was nearer full price. Not sure how they can justify ex demonstrator cars at that price, but it certainly made my mind up to get a new car again.
