Lacquer peeling off my bumber

Featured Replies

Gave the car a quick wash today at a local jet wash place. While cleaning the bumper I first thought there was something sticky on it. So I thought if its not coming off with the jet wash then I'll get a sponge on it when I get home.

After closer inspection its the lacquer peeling off the bumper :thumbdwn:

Unfortunately its an 04 plate so its over 3 years old and doesn't look like its going to be covered under the paint work warranty. That bumper btw was resprayed by Skoda last year as the paint was coming away from the edges. Will I have any sort of warranty with that? and if not how much does it usually cost to get a bumper resprayed?

cheers

I'd ask them.

Icidentally, where was your paint peeling from? Some seems to be on mine, but they've refused a warranty fix, saying the bumper has been repainted before I owned the car.

i have what looks like paint peeling in the join from the lower apron and main bumper part, i havent enquired if it would be covered under warranty but given i have 2 months left til the car hits its third birthday i would be interested to know if this is something i could claim. would also cure the stonechips its aquired :D

I have drawn a red line to show where the paint was peeling.

The main dealer said that it was common on early Fabia's and resprayed under warranty so if yours is do that then take it in.

That's *exactly* where mine is peeling. I think a revisit my be required. They did claim that the bumper had been painted before I owned the car, so it was poor paint then. However, there's no signs I can see of any bodywork being done there- and I'm fairly good at spotting it.

The peeling is also caused by the lacquer being applied too long after the paint was applied.

I am informed by the bodyshop that it has to be applied quite quickly after it is painted, otherwise the peeling starts.

oh right, cheers for that Beretta. Will keep that in mind when speaking to Skoda

Just dug this thread up as I have just noticed the same thing on my new vRS (Jan 07 reg) . I have just emailed the dealer (independant) complaining as I have only had the car a week. I did ask him if it had any repair work done on it and he said not. Having read the thread though it may well be a Skoda warranty claim.

Mine is peeling from the rear bumper but in exactly the same spot.

Has anyone had any experience of this??

I thought Skoda had a 10 Year paint warranty or something?
