Can anyone tell me if it is possible to remove the pins from an ISO connector in order to switch 2 round (the live and ignition)? If so how? I presumed it would be similar to a molex connector but am a bit stumped with this one!

Might be a silly question, but why are you wanting to do this?

Presumably to avoid fitting the adaptor from hellfrauds that's required for most aftermarket head units that does exactly that!

But you don't need to do any hacking!? Most aftermarket head units will come with the live and switched live on bullet connectors, that way you can swap them around if your car has different wiring.... just like ours do!

I don't see it as being the cheapskate way around at all. They jobbies from Halfords are wiring 'adaptors', there's no wiring to be adapted, so no need to use them!

Yes you can swap them around if you don't have the bullets as Dan says.

There is a special tool (Which is a godsend but fecking expensive) however a bent paperclip will do the job too. You are aiming to release the barbs from the free end of the plug. There is a small locking tab in the plug that you'll need to remove first.

Or you can use a small jewellers style screwdriver or similar to push the retaining lug in while gently pulling the wire.

I did this earlier when I fitted my new head unit. I removed the 'K wire' from the harness to avoid the associated problems, I then soldered the wire onto the dimmer control wire and clipped it back into the corresponding slot on the harness.

Hi people. Thanks for the quick response. The headunit is an LG one that came with the car when I bought it. Dosen't have bullet connectors on it.

Basically the reason I want to do it is the headunit seems to be wired in with just the standard VAG connector which is fine by me (nice and neat). However when the car is started the headunit never powers up itself (I have to manually press the power button) and all the stored settings (radio frequencies, etc) are lost.

I have read this is due to the ignition and battery live wires being the opposite way round on VAG cars and as I intend to keep the unit and sell it on with the car (I do not have the original) I figured the most simple and neat way to do it would be to swap the wires if I could.

Gonna give it another bash first thing tomorrow morning!

Might be worth checking that your "vag wired" head unit isn't chucking 12v up the diagnostics line before you take it to any dealers as they won't be happy if you fry their equipment .

Instructions are on the ross tech site somewhere and sound quite simple.

I remove quite a few of those terminals and have sometimes spent hours trying to get the buggers out with a paperclip. It cost me a lot of money but that tool is worth it's weight in gold.
