nVidia 8800 GTX graphics card

Featured Replies

Now I am posting this on a car site as I am getting desperate! I have a Dell Dimension 9200, which is now available with the nVidia 8800 GTX graphics card. There are hundreds of posts on the internet regarding this matter however I am looking to upgrade from my nVidia 7900gs and I am looking for a step by step guide in doing so?

Any computer whizz kids out there who can help??

The other option would be to fit a 8800 GTS which I shouldn't have a problem with.

Thanks!:)

There's nothing to it.

Push the catch on the top of the case and remove the side panel.

Undo the clip and bracket that goes over the end of the card slots

Remove old card , put new card in.

Turn on

It was more the fact that the 8800 GTX requires 2 PCi-E power connectors and the Dimension 9200 only has one, however I have just read on the net that the new card comes with a splitter that turns one connection to two.

you'll probably need either a bigger PSU or you can buy a second PSU just for teh graphics cards :)

its what we will have to do with our dell.

Yes, the 8800 is a very power heavy beast. You will most likely also need to replace the PSU as already mentioned. The newer dell models will come with the bigger supplies as standard. I would think it will struggle with anything less than 700W.

manny, my dell is less than 6 months old and nothing like powerful enough for an 8800gtx.

Thread moved to Tech Shed :)
