Well I didn't quite post what I meant either. I meant beer vs. ale, rather than bitter vs. ale - bitter is a type of ale, so I was intrigued to know what you meant by ales .... :confused:

I guess I meant ales in the style of Kentish Ale ('Winter ale'?)as opposed to porter, IPA or bitter. I don't know enough to give the proper classification, I just know what I like... Something like Bishop's Finger, or, when north of the border, 'Heavy'...

Also as for days/dates I'm open, I don't work evenings so any evening is good for me, so I will go with the general consensus. Bareing in mind the tours run Monday to Thursday. Midweek might be difficult for Jenny due to work commitments, but we would both be interested if the visit to Hydes fell on a Monday.

The Cains option is also good.

Quite frankly, we both love our ale and any brewery trip no matter where it is wouldn't be out of the question (hiccup).

Sometimes we pop in the Horton Arms near Oldham for a Lees Cask Bitter or Dark Smooth.

The brewery is just up the road from my house and I've often wondered when I drive past whether its more than coincidence that the Brewery is placed within 100m between the Rochdale Canal and the Sarsons vineger factory..nothing like having your raw materials to hand eh?
