Brewery tour - Manchester - Hydes!

Featured Replies

Howdy guys!

Am fairly new to Briskoda, but am a nice person really!

And am a Camra member, and I love my beer, and I am looking to do a brewery tour at Hydes brewery in Manchester soon)

However we need a minimum of 15 people to do it, and immediately though of the guys on here! I mean whom doesn't like cars and beer? (albeit not at the same time I hope?!!!)

So I thought of arranging the tour at hydes. It costs £7.50 per person and that includes drinks too and food if need be.

So would any body been interested? By the way I can organise a **** up in a brewery! :D

If I lived in that area still...

Memories of the Friendship Inn on Wilmslow Rd in the 1970s. I did tend to prefer Holt's though ...

I may be up for this. :)

Where is the Hydes brewery?

 'twas my local in 2001/2 and I'm going fat, grey and bald! Previously frequented the Albert in Rusholme for 2 years which is another Hydes pub.

Where is the Hydes brewery?

Bandit Country - Hulme, not far from the Scottish Courage brewery. Seeing as I live less than a mile away, I'd be interested in doing this.

Whilst I'm doing public service announcements, its on Moss Lane West, M15 5PH and there are very frequent bus services between here and Picadilly Gardens in the city centre.

T'wife and I could be up for this :)

I was at Manchester Uni between 76 and 79. Fond memories of the Friendship, the Plaza Cafe (long since dead) and the Charcoal Pit... we all have our growing up places :)

I'll be up for this depending on dates. The company I work for dispose of the waste from the factory so it'll be nice to see some of the beer for once!

This time of year has marked my 10th anniversary living in Manchester and the passing of time seems to be accelerating exponentially. I hope some of my remaining "growing up" places are still here in 20yrs time. My favourite has already been gone a few years:(

Back on topic, if I'm being honest 99% of manchester beer is rubbish. Mind you, I still drink it:thumbup:

Jenny and I may be interested as we like a proper pint or three!

Sometimes we pop in the Horton Arms near Oldham for a Lees Cask Bitter or Dark Smooth.

Looking forward to Wetherspoons Real Ale Festival in November too. If it's anything like the last time, a £1 a pint!

Right looks like we have a goer, we need a couple of more people then we can think of a date maybe?

we might be interested in this too... just depends when ;)

Am I right in thinking this is more likely to be an evening thing?

@daiking: 11-and-a-bit years here for me now - where was your favourite place, then? Mine was Corbieres BEFORE they did it up. They had a jukebox with all these 45s from the 80s in, and free table football, and drippy candles in winebottles. It was so un-cool that it was cool!

As for Manchester beer, I prefer the ales to the bitters, so a trip round Hyde's might be fun - like's been said, would it be daytime or evening...?

Hmm, lots of "outsiders" milling around the Hulme / Moss Side border... :rubchin:

Actually, apart from the parole board offices across the road, there's been quite a bit of regeneration around there in recent years!

Anything ending in "ons" is p*ss and should be avoided at all costs. Anything beginning with "H" is usually OK :) (or such has been my experience - mind you, it's a long time ago)

PS I'm not aware any British brewery makes bitter - it's called that, but it's all ale, really, AIUI.

Well OK - Beer style - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, but you know what I mean and I know what I mean! ;):D

Could be interested, depending on when you're thinking of doing it...

Well the tours are run Monday to Thursday, and the best day for me would be a Thursday, so a Thursday evening sometime in the future!

Well I didn't quite post what I meant either. I meant beer vs. ale, rather than bitter vs. ale - bitter is a type of ale, so I was intrigued to know what you meant by ales ....

Sounds good to me
