Featured Replies

hi

ive been converting my skoda rapid 130 to a porsche 550 replica, ive finished the body and it looks good, now im looking to improve the engine, ive got the 1300cc and its only 67bhp can i put a 1.6 felicia engine in or what can i do to the 1300cc engine

any help would be great.

cheers

wow sounds very interesting, got any pics of the work so far?

does sound interesting - some pics would be nice, and generate much more advice. Wonder what the weight -saving is? (Jason where are you???)

How about a Mazda RX7 transplant :)

i have heard about the alpha boxer 33 engine, but it weighs a lot more

That is gorgeous mate!!! Think we have to ask Teflon Tom about some of the engine stuff. IIRC he was doing some seriously interesting engine work...

Very cool . I hope you don't mind, I've moved it to a more relevant forum.

how do i do that? new at this

You don't. I have :D

That's a cracking looking car but it really does need a better engine to do it justice.

Looks cool, and I was serious about the RX7 engine :)

The original Porsche Speedster had 1300 and 1600 engines and a maximum power output of about 75bhp. Why do we need to try and shoehorn huge engines into what's meant to be a fun little classic replica?

I don't think it needs anything huge , but a nice alfa engine would give it very respectable performance as well as the looks.

That is lovely mate, keep up the good work.

Very smart! Do you not fancy an ageless numberplate for it , there are a few on EBay for a few hundred quid , would be a nice finishing touch.

I saw one of those in a similar colour some years ago with the Skoda engine in it.

I hope the rapid that was used to do this was rotten!!

HAHA

I hope the rapid that was used to do this was rotten!!

on the contrary, this kit requires the car to be in EXCELLENT condition as it uses the floorpan and sills, and the rest is cut off. all the usual rot spots, especially in a rapid, need to be sound and as such the car will have been likely very sound before this began.

im not laughing with you on this one. i'm tempted to say i hope it burns, but that would be too much. ban me, go on, i dont care. haha, theres a pun for you, ban me. lol.

Dont know much about whats needed on them to be honest, i thought they used a monocoque shell type thing with rapid running gear strapped to it...how wrong i was...

Just to clarify his pun, there called Banham's....

TUT!

Try putting in a PM to SkodaCabrio. She's just got a tuned Rapid.

yea your right the car was sound it had been rolled but i didnt need the roof any way. i did think you would not a prove but the car would most prob be scraped.

i have thought of the alpa but i would like to talk to some body else who has done it, or if i can get my 1300 up to a 100bhp ill do that just need a bit of advise.

That's fair enough; a bent shell is often a technical write-off, not just an economic one.

As for power, I've not got the info to hand, but it's possible to tune the standard Rapid 1300 up to 120bhp, red-line 7_000 rpm, at which point it will redline in 5th with the standard gearing. That would give you about the same power (but better reliablilty and drivability) than the original Porsche 550C's 4-cam roller cam, twin carb 1500.

that is what i would like to do, if i can get it above 100bhp it would be great laugh to drive.

do you know how and how much it would cost? as ive got money burning in my pocket and ill would like to get it sorted for next summer.

The figures I can remember are 20 years old, but at that time the built engine, shell strengthening, uprated suspension (using a mixture of Saab and BMW dampers), roll cage etc to build a GpA spec Estelle was just under £1000 (using standard carb and own labour, standard manifolds). The 120 brake figure was same internals, new manifolds and a Weber.

I might be able to pick up the relevant articles in a couple of weeks time.
