high mileage octavia

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've seen a black octavia (04) L&K 130bhp with 98k miles, used by a salesman for three years, regularly serviced, with a new cambelt for 5950 pounds, and it's just what I want, but I'm concerned with the high mileage. I guess I need people with experience of driving these cars up to 200K to reassure me that buying a higher mileage car is not a big mistake.

If looked after and regularly serviced does anyone foresee any major problems if I do 20k a year for the next 5-6 years ?

All feedback much appreciated...

I assume its a diesel L&K?

If it is just ask taxi drivers, they can't speak more highly of them, I was in a Octy Diesel taxi the other day and it had 250k on the clock, the driver said its never let him down and he looks after it totally.

Thats not high mileage, just over 30K PA. The engine should be good for 250K plus as already pointed out.

Yes it's a diesel. I appreciate the feedback, I'm going to go for it - just keep it regularly serviced I guess

Yep, keep it serviced and the car should be fine.

Mine has now done 134,000 and still goes like a rocket:D.

Still feels tight,is rattle free, and always makes me smile when I drive it.

100,000 is nothing for these motors, although at that mileage the VNT can present issues:eek:.

one of my colleagues, a DEFRA Vet has an X reg Tdi slx with 285000 on it he's had it from new and claims to have had no problems unlike mine s reg with 125000 which is starting to show its age and recently had niggly wee problems. The engine still goes well though. he even says that it is the original clutch

Was speaking to a taxi driver in Portugal last week with 468,000KM on his Tdi. ( 2003 model !! ) He was adamant that it had all been trouble free. He also said that he shared it with another driver and it was on the road pretty much 24/7!

hasn't one member got a signature that says "250,000 taxi drivers can't be wrong!" ?? lol... there was an octy sdi for sale in Workington recently, ex-taxi, with 250,000 miles on it (52 I think!) and that was said to be running perfect :)

As my TDi 110 heads towards 150,000 miles things do seemed to have dropped off a bit. I'm getting several rattles in the cabin, and the front near-side wheel bearing is droning badly. But from 90k to 144k it's only had: four discs, four dampers, front ARB, front wishbone rear bushes and a clutch master cylinder. I'd still argue that wasn't bad for over 50,000 miles of motoring, especially as you could call most of that 'consumables'.

i agree with the guys above, i see loads of taxis and police cars with very high mileages, and no major complaints. so that sort of mileage wont be a issue :D

As a salesmans car it would most likely be plenty of motorway miles, so be good chance that it hasnt had lots of gear stirring.

Would check out the usual, belt and clutch/gears. tho.

I bought the same car (03model 80k) a year ago.

No problems so far, other than slight wear in steering rack commented at MOT - 'unlikely to require repair for many years/miles'.

I personally doubt many 130bhp engines will make 250k though, and sooner or later you will get a big bill - turbo etc.

Asking price is too high - but depends on what the whole deal is.

If it's any help, I've just purchased an 02 plate Octavia VRS and it's sitting on 113k at the mo, it's an ex-lease car and it's very tidy and engine is very healthy and is a well looked after motor, a few minor scratches and dings but then ex-lease you would expect that, I'd say go for it mate.

i bought my pd130 in march with 86,000 miles on at 3 years old. I have had to change the clutch and my wishbone and ARB bushes have all perished. other than that excelent car.
