Laptop Wireless Problem

Featured Replies

Just got a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Laptop last week, connected it wirelessly to my orange livebox no problems at all, now the connection has been dropping occasionaly. after a bit of routing about, when I check device manager it appears my Wireless network adaptor has dissapeared, I found the latest drivers for it on the web and put them on, the adaptor came back, for a short time then goes away again.

I'm confused, only put a couple of bits of software on it (Office 07, VAG COM, Winrar and Avast)

Anybody any ideas?

Could it just be a fubared adaptor and return the laptop to currys?

Power management could be turning the adapter off, reboot, then in device manager right click on the device and uncheck anything to do with power management.

Thanks Manny, It did have "Allow the PC to turn this item off to conserve power" checked, have unchecked it now, but would turning it off remove it from device manager?

I presume you're using Windows Vista? I was configuring wifi on a few laptops last week and realised that Vista will often override the physical power switch on the machine itself, which is a royal pain in the backside and require you to look for the wifi enable hotkey.

Possibly, because the power supply is disconnected.

 seemed to be a good tip, Has not dropped since i have told it not to power down.

I think it may have possibly happened when the laptop went into sleep mode, and when it woke up again it forgot to wake the wireless card.

It is Vista Home Premium, first time i have used vista, usual getting to find the odds and sods they have moved around and I actually quite like it.
