Glovebox light Query

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

After an attempted break-in on my car, I have decided to leave the glovebox open to show nothing is in there. However when the key is removed the glovebox light stays on. WHen I activate the alarm I think the light stays on too. Does this permanantly stay on or does it go off after a while? I don't fancy a little bulb draining the battery everyday for 7-8 hours

When i had the car broken into last year i'm pretty sure the glovebox light was still on after at least a couple of hours.....

Sorry i can't help much more.

Cheers

Dave.

The only help I can give is to suggest you remove the bulb, like car dealers do when they leave the boot / doors open while the car's on show. The bulb holder on the Fabia's a fantastic bit of design, but is a right PITA to reassemble if you manage to 'explode' it trying to get the bulb out, so if you do decide to follow this approach, these might help:

The alternative would be to take a spur off the switched live from the back of the radio and replace the permanent live on the glovebox light with this one. Would mean the light only comes on when the ignition is on. :D

Thanks for your replies. Chrispy I was thinking of doing that but its a pain getting my headunit out and back in again :@ Might just remove the bulb and live with no light in the glovebox :(

If it were me I would remove the light, I had a problem with my last car when the boot latch broke, could not close the boot and the boot light stayed on, after burning my fingers a few times even with a duster covering my fingers I removed the bulb.

Not sure if this would drain the battery through as my last car also had a bent glovebox and the light stayed on in there for the duration I had the car and it never drained the battery.

If you want the glovebox light turned off permanently just remove the latched plug which plugs into the glovebox light fitting. This is easier than removing the bulb ,and will stop the bulb being lost! The plug is female ,which means the 12 volts cannot be shorted out if it was to touch the car chassis.

^^ Good point, well made!

Just wanted to say thanks for posting the pictures of the glove box bulb housing. Removed mine today to mod the glove box lights with an LED strip and yeah it exploded as I removed it. Would have been lost without a reference pic to reassemble it with.

Figured I may as well post the reason why I was removing my glovebox light. Dunno about you guys but I can't find anything in there at night with a standard bulb so fitted some LEDs.

Anyhow, connected the LEDs onto the bulb connector to negate any need to cut any original wires. Finally I might be able to see what I'm looking for in the glovebox. Why VAG didn't fit higher rated bulbs in the boot and glovebox is beyond me.

Thankfully the LEDs are hidden from view, because they do look pretty chavvy to be fair. You just end up with a bright crisp white light.

Hahaha

and im guessing this was in with a fixing/ making stuff better sesh ?

My MPI doesn't have a glovebox light, there is a blanking plate covering the hole. Does anyone know if the plug will be there for one?

Handiest thing would be to drop the glovebox out there are 5 torx screws holding it in place, that'll show you best :)

Taking it out and popping it back on should take less than 20 mins :)

OK, I'll do that. Cheers :)

Took the glovebox out today, there is no wiring/plug for a glovebox light. I could take a feed off the radio wiring but I can't really be bothered to mess about. I'll live without the light.
