Could somebody post a picture of the front light cluster?

Could somebody post a picture front light cluster from inside the engine bay?

I bought a set of Osram Silverstars back in April and both of them blew over the weekend. The car has only covered about 7,500miles, I would have expected them to last longer. I think the cover which clips into place to seal the bulbs in place isn't water tight and may be causing the bulbs to blow prematurely so I'd be grateful if somebody could post a picture of the light cluster for me?

Have you had any serious condensation probs with H/Lights?

No none really....

You need to locate the two lugs at the bottom edge of the smoked plastic cover in the two receivers in the light housing, before locating the two clips at the top of the cover. There is definitely a watertight seal if fitted corretly, and the best way to check is to run a finger around the edge to check it's sitting correctly. I know this, as I didn't replace it correctly one time, and ended up with a fogged lens. Didn't cause it to blow, though! Fogging would probably have happened to you too, if the cover wasn't sealed correctly.

I realise the covers on the Fabia are fiddly (on the vRS, especially), but as I've seen cars with completely-flooded light clusters, where the lights have worked OK (rear lights admittedly), I can't imagine a little condensation would cause the bulbs to blow, I'm afraid... Don't forget 'superbright' bulbs rely on running hotter than standard bulbs, and the [bulb] that burns twice as bright burns half as long...

No none really....

Could just be the bulbs!

Faulty batches not unheard of

Thanks for that...there is definitely some part missing, I'll run down on my lunch and take a picture cause mine certainly don't seal. I did once get a slight bit of condensation while washing the car but that's it.

My passenger side fogs up sometimes after I wash it.... not much just at the bottom but it goes after the headlights are on... must check the seal again today

Been watchin' Bladerunner?

Would 7,500miles be too quickly for them to blow? Or what mileage do people typically get?

Mine does that too

Light misting's nothing to worry about

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... :D

Varies seen a set POP as soon as turned on!

It's not mileage it's burn time thats the factor

Average for Standard Halogens is about 300hrs

Depends on how much you're using them :) How long have they been fitted for?

Which fitment are we talking here? Dipped or main?

Dipped beam....I drive with them on all the time, suppose that probably doesn't help things. Fitted since April.

TBH think they've come to the end of their working life, nothing sinister

approx 150 days 2/3hrs per day= 300-450hrs

Hmmm might start using them less so. They're expensive to be replacing that often.

Damn I didn't know that when I bought them (and I am a Freedom member)

take a peek in freedom talk first thread. softens the blow

My driver's one does, because on of the clips is broken.

So I took a picture of the headlights (attached), I've highlighted where I think there should be some kind of pin holding the back of the headlight in place. Can anybody tell me if there should be some pin of sorts holding the unit together?

As you can see from the second picture, it doesn't quite seal properly/at all.

No, there's nno pin, but yours looks broken in the same place as mine. There should be a clip in the slot below-right of yor highlight. They seem to snap off easily.

The covers are available seperately. See my post 'part no. request' in this forum.

The hole is, I believe, for a screw - it may be that some countries have to have the covers screwed in place? I don't know about bits snapping off, but it looks to me as though the bottom-left lug (as you're stood over it) isn't seated correctly. The slightly concave shape of the cover doesn't help, and neither does the lack of space between the back of the lights and the gubbins in the engine bay. If it's stopped raining when I go for lunch, I'll take a pic of how it should sit...

(PS: I don't mean to sound condescending - I just know how fiddly it is! When I cocked-up mine, I was convinced it was right, and it took me ages to sort it when it started to fog up...)

Didn't sound condescending at all, would really appreciate if you would take a pic.
