An induction kit would be pointless if youve just shelled out for a pd160 pipe.

I would go with a pipercross panel filter from what other people have said. I have a green one but it just doesnt seem to fit in the airbox snugg. I wish id have gone for the pipercross foam version.

Send Awesomesarah a pm i am sure she will be able to help you out

The various discussions on filters I've seen seem to conclude that a brand-new OEM paper filter is just as good as a panel filter or whatever. It's over time that the panel filters etc. are better, as they can be cleaned. Then again, a paper filter's only a tenner, so it's not that expensive to replace it more often than the 40k given in the service schedule. That's what I'm going to do from now on...

That's my 2ps, anyway...

:sofahide:

I agree with the above.

PS: Further to the 'disposable filter' philosophy, it might not be the most environmentally-friendly approach, but this is what my 15k-old paper filter looked like shortly before being slung into the bin:

Wouldn't fancy cleaning a panel filter in that state... :smirk:

I guess the comeback to that is you clean it more often, but then:

a) It's extra ball-ache;

B) The cleaning kits aren't cheap, if you want to do more than just hoover the thing...

Wow, thats pretty grubby  Just checked mine after 12k and its actually not 'too' bad. Still gonna replace it within the next few thousand.

Don't suppose you happen to know the part number?

green cotten panel filter i would go for

Any specific reasons why you'd chose that over the alternatives? :D

The problem with some of the panel filters is that they do not fit very well into the slot and the seal on the outside doesn't fit in place well enough.

I would (and have) go for a Powertec stainless steel induction kit. You can keep the PD160 pipe to direct cold air towards it, and being stainless steel you will not have to oil it at all. Just clean it regularly and dry it well.

Standard paper filter £9.10 @ GSF.

That's far too cheap.

If it was any good it would cost way more than that.

Or so the "logic" goes....

Not sure what side of the fence you're on there! The filter I took out was a Mahle one (reasonably reputable make); the one I put in came in a Unipart box (although I don't remember any branding!) The two were visually identical, right down to the orange rubber sealing strip round the edge. Assuming they will both have had to comply with some standard or other, I see no reason to believe why one should be any better than the other (or indeed better than OEM, at more than twice the price...)

I just bought a Green Filter.

Dont know why have always heard there the best!

boys and girls, on a fabia always go for a green panel filter

ive got a pipercross

works well, does the job.

Do a search and you'll see the problems :thumbdwn:

Would agree with you totally Joel changed to the Pipercross Filter 3000 miles ago all is good. :D

Pipercross. Now done 10K. No problems with dirt getting past filter, even though it looks loose when first put in. Cleaned at 1,3,5 and 10K to check. Will now do every 5K. So easy. No problems to clean in sink (don't mention to SWMBO) and doesn't need special drying. A clean filter really does make a huge difference and payback time means that if changing paper at 10K (rather than 40), then breakeven is about 50K. About 18 months for me.

I use a Green filter. True, it fits about as well as a pair of tesco value trousers, but i've checked it several times since fitting and the top part of the air box is as clean as a whistle.

To me the engine feels a little more eager at high revs.
