Window "problem"

Featured Replies

I got up this morning, walked out of the hotel room to the Octy and found all the windows down. I have my Vag-Com cable in the car so hooked it up and there are no fault codes.

Now I KNOW beyond any doubt that I locked the car last night when I got back and all windows were up.

Nothing missing from the car at all so probaly not a malicious act, is it possible at all, that someone else has a key with the same code and could have unlocked it and wound the windows down?

They had not been down all night I suspect as it has been chucking down with rain in the night and the interior is bone dry.

Maybe I am sleepwalking and pressing the remote ...... strange stuff indeed, the ghostly octy ....wwwweeHOOOOOwoooHOOOO (that's a spooky noise BTW)

This may seem a little obvious but you did not happen to keep the unlock button pressed as you walked to the car and hence activate the window down function? Maybe the button got stuck down with some dirt or something. Or were the windows down even before you unlocked the car?

They were down before I hit the button to unlock it this morning, I had my previous vRS brokeen into in Nottingham and had that "NOT again" feeling and tried the door's before I hit the button.

Will see if it happens again, last night I was in the middle of nowhere, nest week in London so don't want any mystery window openings while I'm there :D

How far from the car was you during breakfast? Could you have pressed the unlock button with the keys in your pocket and wound the windows down, then say moved sllighly, pressing the lock button and locked the car again, but this time without keeping the lock button pressed so it didn't wind the windows up??

Just a thought, as I've done similar when my car was parked outside my office window.

Apogee, please put that info in a PM and delete your post.

It is the reason many people get their cars delocked.

I'm still not entirely sold on all of this electronic stuff. I bleeped my car closed a few days ago, noticed the driver's window was half down and used the locking button on the key fob to close it.

Luckily I noticed at that point the red flashing LED had stopped and I found that by closing the window I'd unlocked the car, which of course locked again with another quick bleep of the button. But you can lose track of what it is supposed to do and what is a fault.

I too have encountered the mystery of coming back to my car to find all the windows down, luckily nothing missing, but thats three times its happened now, and all occurred in the short term carpark of Heathrow terminal 1. Mentioned it to my local dealer, but he claimed not to have come across this problem before, checked car on a handheld computer(vagcom?) no faults showing. Dealer claims either I pressed the key fob too long, or possible interference from aircraft radio signals??? Am now paranoid about leaving car in said terminal! Unfortunately as a taxi driver I am there at least a couple of times week. last time it occurred my customer commented that I was taking a risk leaving all my windows open like that!

funnily enough this happened to me this morning. I opened the boot and loaded the car up from the house then when I went to get in all the windows were open! I put it down to the button getting pressed in my pocket as it wasnt wet inside but the button is uaully a real bitch to keep depressed which ends in the windows stopping half way down/up. hmmm

So I was not dreaming about tit then  I am going to switch to the "spare" key to see if I have any more occurances of this and will let you know.

I have had a "good poke around" the key I am using and everything seems fine and yes indeedee it's a bit of a bitch to keep the unlock button held down and I don't carry anything in my pockets other than my car key which IU keep seperate to house keys etc etc.

One for Apogee - Got the PM ......... CRIKEY!!!!

So I was not dreaming about tit then  ........

if you were dreaming about tit then i could fully expect anything to happen and you not notice!! :D

Beaten again but it was a classic!

More seriously I haven't had this problem and I hope it stays that way. Seems likely that it's an unintentional activation from your remote although I did have a Citroen XM that used to unlock itself. However the window down activation on the octy requires a definite hold down on the button not an odd mis-press.

Happened to me once & only once in a busy motorway service carpark. Pretty sure it must be interference, don't think I pressed the key fob too long.

Cheers.

My Octavia keys would unlock my Fabia . . .

It's a long known issue with VAG cars.

*SHOULD* be sorted on late 03 build onwards. Certainly my 53 Octy was tried several times and never suffered more than a FUBAR'd lock.

VW's and Audi's of a similar age suffered lots......

Can the Windows up/down via key fob feature be disabled by VagCom? If so may be worth switching it off - just an idea...

I had the same experience in a car park last week. All four windows were half open to the same level. There is no way that I could have pressed the fob button to open them that far without knowing about it. Scary!

When was the car built?

Pre 03 builts = known issue

After this, and VAG have re-introduced the problem and we are all at risk! AGAIN!
