i have some how managed to get a set of octavia vrs pads without a pad wear sensor(even though i crossed referenced them with 3 other VAG cars with wear sensors and stated i wanted wear sensor when i rang to order them). so i need to by pass this when i fit new pads.

is it a case of cutting the old one off the pad and re-connecting it to the car?or do i need to connect up the two loose ends?

i DO keep an eye on my pads and this is just another light that i can do without.so i am not about to endanger the lifes of my family,i just cannot be bothered to send pads back to scotland and wait for replacements(if they have any in stock).

If you have VAG-COM it can be disabled.

Yes, simply join the wires from the old sensor back together and cable tie out of the way.

Where ?? is the sum of all options and IIRC it is subtract 1 from the number at ?? to remove the option of brake pad wear sensors.

eg if ?? = 12 then change it to 11

Assuming the user has a genuine cable then the helper window will popup and tell you what to change.

The only problem with doing it the VAG-COM way is when the pads are changed again, you may have to reverse the code again (if the next set of pads have the sensors).

At least with shorting an old cable its a 30 second job, the wheel is already off and the sensor already plugged in, just scotch lock / toffee block the cable back together and cable tie out of the way.

If you do however decide to go the VAG-COM route, it is still advisable to keep the sensor plugged in and tied out of the way, just to keep any water out of the plug.
