What software version you running? There may an update available for it. Don't believe you can do online updates for the 73, but your nearest Nokia Service Centre will update FOC within the first year.

I have the N95 and find it suits my needs :)

Now that I have it configured right :)

Wasnt too keen on the slidy action, never trusted any Slide or Flip phone.

Hence the reason i dont really want to get rid of a good solid phone.

Been on the site, and it says my version is the latest!

Boooger!

Strange that, if you've had it 6 months - and doesn't sound like you've had it updated before :rubchin:

Yeah i thought that, after reading the site, but it says the latest version is the same as the one on my fone..it even gives you a date, now i dont know if thats build date or date of last software program?

Updated my one month old N73 today, was V3.something now it's 4.summat else. Now super fast navigating the menus!

I think the black N73 is the music edition which may use slightly different firmware??

Yes it is the music version, which all i can see different is the memory card is bigger, and its black?!

How did you update yours may i ask?

If you fire up the Nokia data suite one of the options on the bottom row is software update / firmware update or something like that, click on that with your phone connected to your PC via a cable (can't be Bluetooth) and follow the instructions.

It will take you to the Nokia site and check your firmware, then it will give you a link to the nokia firmware updating program and jobs a good un.

I have an N73 black and I love it, its equiped with the latest firmware, 2gb card, all the newest firmware and updates.

What is it that you're finding slow?

  • Author

Just the phone in general, it takes age to load up the menu page and each other section.

Hardly any pics on it (20 at the most), and 2 music tracks that are no longer than 30 seconds each.

There is a SMS accelerator availabel if your finding sending messages slow

How does that work then?

Its not just the messages i find slow though, its the whole fone, it seems to be all of a sudden aswell.

Its insured but i doubt this is covered...

Its just a piece of software that I got off the internet that install on the phone and the messages send alot quicker, as mine slowed right down, liked 5mins once to send a messge

The N73 has been able to use the firmware updater for a while now..... Did mine at the start of the year but not bothered with the last few updates as they have caused probs on items i use..... Mainly problems with the camera etc....

Might have a look at the new v4 firmware to see what they have done with this release as i'm currently still on 3.0638.0.0.1

Cheers

Mine currently is V 3.0704.1.0.1

And the date beneath it is 19-01-2007

Is that the date is was installed, or made?

Ive also got that version, but someone on here said they had version 4 or something so I tried to update but it said I already have the latest version. So where has this version 4 come from?

4.??

Same for me - Nokia website says latest version is V 3.0704.1.0.1 for my T-Mobile branded N73

Maybe V 4..... is for the N73 music edition?

The date given by the phone when checking what firmware you are running is the release date of that firmware.....

As firmware is released the different operators evaluate it and then release it. When you check your phone on the Nokia website the version number that it asks you for from the back of your phone tells the site what network you are on and what type of phone.

So for example...........

Person A has an N73 on Orange and person B has the same phone on Vodafone. Both are running firmware v1.234.567.

Nokia release firmware v2.345.678 and the operators test it.

Vodafone accept it and put it out for use on their phones before Orange do....

Person A checks his phone on the Nokia site and it'll say he has the latest version of firmware..... Person B does the same and he gets told he has an update available.

I went on last night and checked and the site tells me i have an update available to v4.something for my N73, (Not Music Edition though), which is on Vodafone. I've looked into it online and it looks like this update adds Vodafone branding to the phone when powering up and also adds the Nokia Maps program along with a couple of tweaks to the camera and speeding up of the menus, so it may be just something Vodafone have asked for or the other operators will get their versions shortly etc.....

Hope this helps

Cheers

Dave.
