Wicked, well thanks to Dave (!) I decided to take the "It ain't broke, but I'm gonna have a go at fixing it anyway" approach last night.

I downloaded all the software and it started updating all ok. However, now I'm left with a complete brick that won't even power on at all - no lights or anything!!!! It's now winging it's way back to Nokia UK to be "fixed" or hopefully replaced!!!

Just a warning to everyone thinking about updating their firmware!!!

Ok so i'm to blame for YOU updating YOUR phone and it not working......... :orb_no_no

If you weren't confident in carrying out the update then you shouldn't have attempted it. The nokia software & website stipulate this also. Is it likely that you moved the phone at all while carrying out the update???? If the link to the PC is broken for any amount of time the phone can be left innoperable..... This is also stated by Nokia before carrying out the update and is the most likely cause of your problem.

Cheers

Dave.

I was only kidding Dave, I don't blame you for my brick phone at all!!!! :)

I'm sure I didn't move it, because I had it resting on my computer table for ages whilst it was backing up. Then I just started the upgrade process and went to the loo, came back and it had gone belly up:O

It's no big problem really, as I'm nearing upgrade time anyway and I also have a brand new Nokia 6233 from a warranty claim a few months ago to use, so no worries:thumbup:

Once again Dave, I'm honestly NOT blaiming you at all for this;)

A work friend has an N73 and he has taken his memory card out, and his is miles quicker!

Does everything run via it?

No, I think it just uses it to store data on (like your own pictures, music, videos etc.)

I never had a memory card for mine anyway - just used the internal memory on the handset itself.

Ok well sorry for the rant.... Just the way i read your post.:thumbup::thumbup:

When you came back to the phone did it say it had finished on the PC screen???? It can take upto 30 mins to complete and the phone WILL go dead through the process you just have to wait till the PC says it is cmpletely finished.

It stores photos, video, music etc..... But also can have apps, games, etc... installed on it too...... Mine is a 1gig card and is currently running with 700meg in use and the phone seems to run just as fast with or without the card installed. Same with the mrs' but hers has approx 400meg in use.

Whenever i install a game or app i always put it on the card rather than the phone. The only thing i've installed on the phone itself is a messaging app to put smilies etc... into SMS's and the full version of quick office which has to be installed in the same place as the lite version you get on the phone anyway.

Cheers

Dave.

When I came back to the phone, there was a screen asking me whether I wanted to retry the installation and, if so, to reconnect the phone - except the phone was still connected:O

It's at me Nokia Service centre now, so in 2-3 weeks, I should have it back reflashed or even better - replaced with a refurbished one :)
