Best place/way for private plates??

Featured Replies

Hi guys... im thinking of getting some private plates on my car and was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions of where to look and get them from?

Looked on DVLA site and they seem more expensive than other online sites... around £30 more from DVLA than newreg.co.uk.

Thanks

the DVLA is the cheapest in the long run. It includes the £80 assignment fee...which often isnt included in the prices off other websites.

Dont forget, everywhere has to get there plates from the DVLA anyways!!

well, you would have thought that was the case, but for the same plate on newreg.co.uk it only costs £302 in total (thats with vat and the £80 for transfer fees). The same one would cost £330 from DVLA... unless newreg has some more charges along the way.

Will investigate.

Thanks for reply

I'd be very surprised if newreg/regtransfers etc was cheaper overall. Certainly hasn't been the case in the past.

Perhaps they're trying to be more competitive now though? Other possibility is that the one you're looking for is being sold by an individual, through newreg and they've adjusted the price to try and get a sale.

When I bought mine DVLA were by far the best value.

Plus you know you are dealing with professionals, and they are a government organisation so should be a smooth transaction :P

Are you sure you aren't adding the £80 onto the DVLA price to get to your figure of £330? With the DVLA the quoted price already includes the assignment fee and VAT. Have you included it twice?

As an example for N666VRS....

The DVLA price is £250 all in - DVLA Personalised registrations

The newreg price is £302.08 all in - https://www.newreg.co.uk/secure/buy/index.html?registration=N666%20VRS&marketingId1=homepage&marketingId2=text

:iagree: - I was thinking the same thing. I've never seen them be cheaper than DVLA for 'new plates'. Obviously for completely dateless plates and stuff people are selling on, you either need to use a plate dealer such as newreg or goto a DVLA auction...

Ahhhhhh!! Rite... i get it!

So the DVLA price already includes these additions!

Cool... know who i'll be going with now... and as stated above... should be pretty smooth, trusted government organisation and all!

Thanks for replys guys

Another shout for DVLA. No hidden costs, price you see is "all in".

Mine is for sale still, if anyone wants it :)

 - I've always found the buying process very smooth and professional from DVLA, so would recommend them - as well as the fact they're cheaper!

The only real hassle then is queuing at your local DVLA office, when you're wanting to get the plate onto the car.

Steve

So that's £52.08 we have saved you.

That will more than cover £12 for Freedom membership, and a do-nut each for Wardy, Tom, Shifty and myself

I'll be honest, that sounds like the bargain of the century to me...

:)

Jam or custard Steve?

Mine is for sale still, if anyone wants it :)

Isn't it on the fabia?

I also went through DVLA. Nice and smooth transaction. :)

Jam for me please. :)

And not one of them gross apple things. :thumbdwn:

I bought mine through the DVLA, they were by far the cheapest and I recieved the documents very quickly even with the postal strike on :)
