Honda Civic Type-R Diesel.....

Featured Replies

A derv that revs...........hmmm can only be a good thing i suppose?

Surely that's what all the torque low down is for though? To achieve momentum, with less engine revolutions?

But about an engine with petrol characteristics, but diesel economy? Now, to me, that's an entirely different proposition. If that's where Honda is heading, I for one will be interested in the outcome.

Steve

But an engine with petrol characteristics, but diesel economy?

Isn't that called an FSI ? :P

Put simply; no!

Taking the Octavia as a benchmark, the 2.0FSI 150bhp unit has a combined MPG of 34. This doesn't compare that favourably with the 47.1MPG combined possible with the 2.0TDI 140bhp unit.

Steve

Put simply; no!

You trying to be emphatic :P

That's what they're trying to achieve anyway.

Plus, you're not comparing like with like - the FSI has 10 bhp more :D

You mean like the Merc DiesOtto unit...? :D

Rob.

Sounds interesting. Will probably start a new GTI race which can't be a bad thing. Mind u DERV head doesn't have the same ring or give the same image of Petrol Head

That really does sound "too good to be true" , but I'm willing to be proved wrong.

Oh , and Type-R D , yes please

Know what you mean...was looking for a published date of 1st April when I first read about it!

It seems to be about two and a half times as efficient as a conventional petrol engine at extracting energy from fuel which is a stunning leap in performance if true.

Just read up on that DiesOtto engine... my god, if thats true, pretty stunning figures!

238Bhp from a 1.8 and 37.4 MPG's!!! Lets hope there no B-S'in!!

Think the Type-R Diesel could be a winner too... if Honda can also deliver its promises!

Yep, something like DiesOtto - that's certainly a fairly huge leap in the right direction. Again, if reality lives up to the hype.

Also, as a thought - what's happening to Ford and diesel engine advancement? They seem to be trailing behind somewhat. If Honda will have the TypeR-D, should Ford have the ST-D? ;)

Steve

Wonder what sort of revs it'll go to? Not VTEC like, surely :eek:

In rail or marine applications a medium speed diesel produces maximum power at about 850 rpm (an English Electric 16CSVT 0 247 litre turbocharged V16 producing 2700 bhp). A "high speed" diesel produces maximum power at about 1500 rpm (Paxman Valenta, 88 litre turbocharged V12 producing 2250 bhp).

Ford do have a bigger PSA HDI/TDCI engine they could put in a focus ST-TDCI if they wanted. A 2.2 bi-turbo :D

That would do nicely. Might be tempted back into a Ford then....

It's never going to sound as good as the 2.5T tho :D

re: Type-R-D, will this mean a Type-R that actually has some torque? :P:D

Type-R D? However well it goes, it'll still look like it was designed by a 5 year old.

Should give it to the F1 guys and Rubens, the power of dreams eh ;)

If it comes out, could be very popular, certainly in the Type S market...the type S of course being a diesel version of the R, albeit toned down a smidge.

Great news...now that I'm trading my 04 CTR for a vRS on Sat!

Based on this limited news, could a vRS 180bhp take this proposed CTR diesel model?

The vRS boot is big, but I'm not sure it's that big! :D
