heated mirrors - not working?

Featured Replies

Howdy all, its getting a bit chilly these morning when I leave the house pre 7am. I noticed this morning that the drivers side mirror doesn't seem to be clearing like the passenger side. It will eventually clear, but long long after the passenger side. I'm wondering is the heating element in/behind the mirror gone?

Anyone any ideas where to start? Do the mirrors actually get hot? Are they fused seperately to the rear window demister?

There will certainly be a fuse but I can't remember if it's on its own CCT.

My driver mirror always clears before the near side?

Do the mirrors get hot.....Well I can see the steam coming off of them and yes they do feel hot if you hold your hand to them.

If you have access to a multimeter, point the mirrors as far 'out' as they will go, and you should be able to reach in with the probes to see if there's any p.d. across the terminals. No p.d. = fuse, p.d. = element.

Probably.

Check that its the right glass.

The one in my drivers side isn't the glass that allows the heater controls to work so that might be your problem

My Dad's Audi A4 heated mirrors died one by one. The garage said it was a common problem - basically the heater slowly melts the glue, the glass slides down and breaks the wires. That was a few years ago (S-reg) so hopefully they've fixed it by now.

I seem to have a problem with my MKII heated mirrors in that I am unable to

select the heating option on the control.

It will not stay in the on position :(

You can always swap them over to test....

Just got my '03 Elegance Estate last Wednesday and found out on my first long trip that I had the same problem of driver's side mirror not heating.

I assumed that the mirrors were heated at the same time as the rear screen but I now find it seems to depend on where the mirror adjustment has been left.

To get them both working, I leave the adjustment in the central position and then move it backwards towards the little heated glass sign.

Still experimenting so havn't had time yet to see what happens when the rear screen is on or if you move it the opposite way to turn the mirror heat off. Instructions in the user manual are confusing.

My mirrors have both packed up again. I had them fixed under warranty last time. I was under the impression that they came on with the heated rear window regardless. What's this about them being controlled by the mirror adjustment controls then? News to me. Can somebody explain? Mine is a 53 plate vRS.

i haven't tried it yet, as i've had the car for less than a week, but i assume when the switch is in the middle the mirrors are heated.

Tavares, my 2001 Elegance 4x4 has the same control as yours. You're right - middle = heated. I don't like the control as there isn't a light anywhere to remind you that they're still on.

hopefully mine work as my heated rear screen does nothing:mad:

Silly me:O didn't notice the heated mirror symbol. So thats why my mirrors didn't heat up.

Well blow me down! Sure enough, my mirror control was pointing to the Left mirror position. I hadn't noticed it wasn't pointing to the middle. Must have changed it sometime when the weather was warmer. Changed it back to the middle and low and behold they work fine again - duuuuh! Not something I've paid much attention to before. I will now!
