One for the mechanics... TDI in an SDI, the reality

Featured Replies

I need some little tips for things to look out for when fitting a TDI engine into an SDI car... I'm not sure what kind of things, perhaps that the SDI central computer doesn't know how to run a turbo, or other sensors that will need moving over... What about fuel pump, as its a PD100 engine into a system I'm sure isn't PD?

Any suggestions will be noted and thanked for. ;)

For a start, what about the wiring for the injectors on the pd lump?

In theory the swap should work, but you would have to swap the engine and all its ancilliaries over so a big job. ECU, fueling system - everything would have to be swapped. The fuel pump is different between the two.

Other things to consider - the sdi doesnt have ASR/ABS does it? May not matter though..

Check the engine mounting points too - are they the same?

The braking system could be swapped over too I expect... Its other more techie things like wiring and the other electrical aspects of it I wonder about...
