Drivers door closed on Octavia

Featured Replies

I have a big problem with drivers door on my octavia 1.8T 20V '99. First, I couldn't open the door with innerhandle but with outerhandle, now the door won't open at all! Is there any way to open drivers door, please help! All other doors can be opened! Sorry for may bad english!

Your English is pretty good - welcome to Briskoda by the way! It sounds as though the cable operating the door lock has come loose, although I'm afraid I don't know personally how to fix it if the door's closed...

I'm sure someone on here will know, though!

I managed to open the door, but inner handle still doesn't work!

The door trim is quite simple to take off, screws around the outside and some behind the switch pack for the windows.

Sounds like the cable has either broken or just come unclipped.

The inner door handle on the drivers door on mine stopped working shortly after I bought it. Turned out it had come off the lever inside the door handle so I fixed it back on with a couple of tie-wraps.

As I've seen a few posts about the cables snapping I bought a spare for mine - costs about £11 from a dealer.

Can somebody tell me how to remove the switch pack for the windows, are there any screws? Pictures if possible! Thanks!

removal of the door trim is covered in the haynes manual if you have one.

From memory, you need to remove the back (the rubbery bit) if the door handle (the bit where you put your hand to close it) and remove that, then you can leave up the whole switch assembly section and you will see 3 screw behind. The speaker up by the mirror can just be pulled straight off, and the mirror adjuster bit can be leavered out with a screwdriver....

Once that is all done, the screws around the edge can be removed, and the pannel pulled away at the bottom. Disconnect the light at the bottom and then push the whole door trim upwards so that it unclips from the window rubber.

If the door release wire is still attached to the handle on the trim the trim pannel won't move too far... otherwise reattach the cable and check all is good. If not then the cable may well be broken else where.

On mine the U-hock on the end detached itself from the cable... .:-( I got a new cable from a dealer and fitted it - the hardest part was getting it onto the lock itself - haynes does suggest removing/loosening the lock, but I did it without - I did not want to hassle of re-aligning the lock.
