Some pics from the Canadian Rockies

Featured Replies

Returned home from a fantastic two week holiday to Canada to take in the wonderful scenery of the Canadian Rockies and Vancouver / Victoria etc.

Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what it was like:

Me looking like a simpleton, standing on the Athabasca glacier - it was AMAZING! You get driven onto it in a 6-wheel-drive Ice-explorer!

Some waterfall (I forget which one it was now - there were soooo many! And yes, the water really is that colour!

Thanks Fezboy! It WAS amazing I must say.

Just found a funny one here. He was a big chap too. I think he was giving a warning to all his "ladies" that there was an intruder on the way!!

Steve

Yup! :)

Don't suppose you have those at 1280x1024 do you, they would make some great desktop backgrounds.

He should have them at 3456x2304 Mark, so 1280x1024 shouldn't be a problem! :D

Steve

Glad you enjoyed your trip, looks like you had the same good weather that we have had. hope my info came in handy! :)

Mark

And all the better people have Nikon D80's ;) hehe!

Nice piccies, with the water ones, did you just use a slow shutter speed for the moving water effect or was there a filter involved?

lovely pics them mate

Won't mention the 5D or 1D sat along side the Bronica then ;)

That 4th one has shutter set at 1/5 sec, on aperture priority mode, at ISO-100, so don't think you'd have cause to use a filter.

Yep. Need to get a better lens than the 18-55 though. :(

Excellent photos though Joe! :) It looks absolutely amazing!

Agreed on the 18-55. You think it's 'OK' until you try something else. The Canon 17-85 I bought for mine is just superb as an everyday lens, so much better....

A fair bit of cash - but money well spent, there's no doubt.

Steve

There are filters that cause that effect. I was just curious

I know. ND filters for one. But my thinking is that none were used, because of the settings saved to the image file.

Hi Loz,

Wardy is pretty much correct, although I did use a circular polarising filter for most of the shots, including the 'milky' waterfalls (my favourites!). It removes reflected light from the surface of the water and therefore allows a longer exposure too, along with greater contrast and deeper blue skies etc.

@ cheezemonkhai:

Yes I have them at the full 8MP, but stupidly, when I was resizing them, I just did them to a "forum friendly" size and messed about a bit on photoshop with them at that size:O If you let me know if there is a specific one you want, then I'll 're-do' it again for you, no probs!!

Lastly, thanks everyone for the compliments - it means a lot :thumbup::thumbup:
