ASR "off" and crashing - a connection?

Featured Replies

yaw isn't something to deal with, thats like saying ESP detects and deals with your steering angle. :)

yaw is simply the angle of the car rotationally on the horizontal axis as apposed to pitch and roll(pitch= forward to backward , roll=side to side, yaw=left to right rotationally) ;)

active yaw control on the evo for example is just part of its ESP system that keeps the car traveling in the direction with which you desire, not necessarily in the safest direction though if your pointing it toward a ditch :D

Yeah, I am a few hours in to my PPL ;)

ESP does detect your steering angle as well as your lateral movement. I also thought it does detect elements of yaw too...

I think we are trying to say the same thing in a different way.... :)

i know that mate, the esp on my octavia knows a hell of a lot the nosey bloody thing!

it works off of steering angle, individual wheel speeds, yaw, pitch, roll, throttle input, brake input, brake force currently applied to individual wheels and probably a million other things!!

what i was getting at is that yaw isn't something to be dealt with as such much like steering angle and wheel speeds, they are just parts of the grand scheme with which the car ruins my life :)

ive found asr useless on mercedes sprinters too, so its not just skoda.

For someone who doesn't know about ASR - off = more likely to crash IMO. In conditions not condusive to driving at speed, having ASR off can mean power is kept on at a time when it shouldn't, and you wander out from your lane and BANG! Into oncoming traffic or a tree. ASR just helps keep things in track when making progress IMO. Not to be confused with any kind of ESP. ASR only really helps on acceleration, and very little (if at all) under other skid/loss of control situations.

The handling was fine, you just need to know how to drive it.
