Rear wash not working

Featured Replies

When you say left hand side of the boot, under the carpet?

In behind the side covering as it goes up the rear roof pillar....not sure what model yours is but undo the bag hooks and maybe a couple of pop out plastic bungs and ease it out ...you should see a black plastic pipe and the connector will be disconnected

I have had failed rear screen wash on my 06 Octavia. The dealer fixed it and it failed again after a fortnight. It has been in twice again whilst in for other repairs and despite being asked they didn't fix it.

However it does spit out a little screenwash but I am more worried about the rusty mess it is putting out with it. Any ideas?

If the rear washers aren't working, it's worth checking the jets aren't blocked first, as they're easy to get to. That was the poblem on my Octy 2.

..... Looks like my pipe has come off earlier this week. Whats the procedure for re connection on a MK2 Estate ?

Cheers !

I should have posted the outcome from my original post.

My problem was blocked jets - I was more than a little surprised that they were replaced under warranty when it went in for a service! Thanks DM Keith in Bradford

Our 55 plate Octy has this problem regular , first time under warranty they fixed it ,and several times later they still "fixed" it.Couple of weeks ago i went back and they said they would do it under warranty whilst i waited.First the tech'took out the lh side interior and found pipe attached, then out came the hatch lid interior, by now i am getting worried by all this trim being pulled apart as they never seem to go back the same, finally he pulled off the jet and found it blocked and fitted new one.Time for all this 30 mins.(under warranty),this week it blocked again and it took me 30 sec to take it off seconds to blow it out and 30 secs to put it back. And i use Vag fluid.

yes

skoda dealer in dumfries sorted mine out in about 2 mins flat. it was the pipe in the bootlid, no mention of vag fluid and no bill, lovely.

Anyone tell me how to fix on the estate ?

Bump

Anyone give tips on how to re-attach for estate ?

Cheers !

Interesting reading, mine didn't completely stop working but the amount of wash on the window was minimal and suddenly I have water running down through the inside of the boot lid and coming out through the catch mechanism.

Took it back to the main dealers today assuming that the pipe had split or come off. They looked and said it was working fine and that they just had to adjust the jet slightly. Then they charged me a £37 diagnosis charge fee because there was no fault. I protested but they said they couldn't give me my keys back until I paid. I had no choice really.

Got home, checked and low and behold, more water on the screen but the still water in the boot and dripping out of the catch on the boot lid.

Took it back, advised them I was not impressed (some comment about employing blind trainee's may have slipped out !). Problem fixed but I had to ask for my money back and then wait whilst it was discussed with the top man to seek authorization.

Not impressed I have to say, simple job messed up and it has left me thinking they don't care....

Anyone tell me how to fix on the estate ?

The method for joining the pipes shouldn't change from that shown in the earlier posts in this thread it's simply a case of finding the leak.

Thanks Stu. I had forgotten I had posted here ! I have started another thread !! Really wanted advice on getting the trim off.

The actual jets are a lttle ball with a hole in it so if you get a pin, insert it in the hole you can adjust them

Are you sure? The front jets on my Fabia and Octy 2 use a plastic block with a rectangular hole to give the flat spray pattern. The whole plastic block is moved up and down to alter spray height - you cant move them side ways. They easily block with deposits which alter the shape of the rectangular hole and ruining the spray pattern. I removed them from the Fabia and put them in hot water with kettle descaler and used a toothbrush to remove scale. It took about 10 mins and been fine ever since . Had to do this once in 3 years. Not done the Octy2 as its too new.

REPAIR REAR SCREEN WASH

Not from UK-please excuse my English if there is any mistakes!

I was pretty upset with my rear screen wash. The car is a hatchback. After a really cold night it froze and stopped working. I repaired it with my dealer but two weeks after that it froze again and not the fluid in the tank but the little drops on the way out…and it was off again.

But I repaired it using some of the tips posted here. But there are some important things that I want to explain:

1. The rear was tube have two connections on its way to the rear wiper that might disconnect. One of the connections is right next to the wiper itself, and the other one is in the inside of your trunk behind the left wheel arch under the upholstery. So first you have to locate where the problem is.

1.1 If the problem is in the connection next to the wiper the liquid will come out from a little hole in the center of the trunk hood right over the lock.

1.2 If the other connection fails liquid comes out from somewhere and you can see it dropping out behind the rear left tire from the rear bumper where the mud guard should be. In both cases there should be liquid in the tank and you should spray several times.

2 REPAIRING.

2.1 If you have 1.1 situation you have to dismantle the trunk door inside cover.

First unscrew the screw under the closing handle. That’s the only screw. Now there are some metal clips. Start from the bottom end, the one next to the lock. From one of the bottom corners try to unclips it by pulling hard, I used also a plastic tube to leaver out. When you finish with the bottom end clips there are some plastic parts in the inside that can not be reached but just pull and they will come out, they are soft and I did not broke anything, just slightly deformed those parts. After that there are six more clips right under the rear window. Start from the one corner and just pull perpendicular to the window. The clips should come out.

Now you see it all. Put the tube on its place and fix it with sticking tape.

To mount the cover back first check out if all the metal clips are on the cover! After that start from the window side. Slide both corners in their place and try to put into place the clips and just hit it hard to fix. The best way to do it is by entering the trunk face backwards. Check out if the two plastic parts are in place, they should slide in there in the beginning. Fixing the bottom end clips is a bit harder. Start with the upper ones using a small screwdriver to just put them into place. Do not forget the screw!

2.2 If you have 1.2 situation you don’t need to dismantle the trunk door cover. You need access under the upholstery on the left. First unscrew the bag hook. Next the little hook next to the taillights back. Now remove the spare tire cover and unscrew the two plastic nuts holding the plastic part with the incident triangle. That plastic cover has some metal clips too, just pull it up on the left side only to unclips the first clips from the left. Now loosen the upholstery and try to dismantle the little trunk light wires. You have to use a little flat screwdriver. Pull the upholstery down and you should see the connection in there among the wires. Fix it with tape. Fix the trunk light! Now mantle all back.

3. TOOLS: you need only a Philips type screwdriver, one of those strange 8 spoke screwdrivers and a No10 wrench…and some tape.

I hope that will be useful. It saved me the trouble to go to the dealer…again!

Thanks for this - helped me out no end. The only thing I would say would be that when I reinstalled the rear hatch plastic cover was that I slid the cover back into place, then did the middle 2 'hidden' clips first before doing the window side - if I did the window first, then the middle clips wouldn't locate properly

Cheers!

I can't help but notice all of the people who had theirs fixed under warrenty. I heard mine pop and then stop working just as I drove past my local dealer, so I dropped in to ask if they would fix it under warrenty. They said "I suppose you don't use Skoda screenwash!!!" I informed them that I use the VW screenwash as the dealer is closer to me, they agreed that this was ok! Despite this, they refused to fix it under warrenty as "the rear wash system is not covered!"

:thumbdwn:

More scraped knuckles for me then!:o

I have the reverse problem! The wiper arm works intermittently, usually making one full sweep, or somewhere in between before stopping, however, the washer still works! Any ideas? The car is in for a service tomorrow.

Could the wiper motor be in need of replacing after only four years and 114.5k miles?

Do you think that if the car is under warranty, the dealers might claim that a new pump was needed? Just asking like :)

Hi zmmax,

Great help, I have had the car in a local garage three times for this, and each time my company have been screwed for money. Each time it lasted about 3-4 days.

With your notes, I had it all out, repaired the join and up and working in just under an hour. So great help. English was on the button, and i understood all of your advice.

Once again, thanks for the notes. Plus it has saved my company money.

Cheers
